Our cat, Vanna, borrowed our credit card. She then tried to purchase some ratburgers from ratburger.com… The transaction went through, but she never got the burgers… Are the Admins here connected to ratburger.com in any way?
If so, pls be advised she is the meanest damn cat in the world, and you won’t be safe should you step foot in Lake County Calif.

    I haven’t spotted a bug yet. I’ll keep looking.

I haven’t had one problem since the update so this is an Unbug Report.

    I saw a headline for a post.
I went to read another different post.
When I came back, that first post had disappeared. Vanished without a trace.
That is disturbingly reminiscent of activities I observed at another site, a little over a year ago.

    • That was me! I asked Dime to take down a post I had hopelessly messed up; the new version is up now. :)))

    • And now since you brought it up, you’re obligated to comment on it.

    • There was a problem with the title. When I clicked on it, it showed up missing. It needed more editing so I reverted it to draft for Liz to fix it.

    • Good.
      I can relax.

    • I am working on a place to give information so people can check if something like this happens in the future.
Maybe a group should be started to let the community know if a member decides to edit their own post by reverting to draft. It is just a thought.

    • I wouldn’t worry Dime; I’m the only member who attempts to post the technically impossible. Everyone else on this site knows better!

    • It would be something more general, Liz.

I used the new Edge Browser and started a post. I couldn’t use the insert link function (the window wouldn’t pop up), went over to Chrome and did a test post and it worked fine there. So, I went back to the Edge and saved the draft. When I went back to the post in Chrome all the text (3 paragraphs) were gone.

    • I used an Amazon Fire with Silk. Apple products with Brave. Windows 7 with Brave. Different operating systems handle things differently. I have found the text tab for editing is more stable. Also when I paste text in the text tab it doesn’t add all the meta data.

    • I’ve just gone back to the Chrome browser and all is well. I posted the above to let you and John know about the new MS Edge browser (on W10).
I know programmers like to know weird quirks about their code because it can sometimes lead to a sleuthing out of a problem that is related or is more foundational.

    • Without investigating this problem (which isn’t going to happen, at least by me, as mine is a Microsoft-free site and life), it’s pretty easy to make an educated supposition as to what is going on in the most general terms.

WordPress is a steaming pile of poo. Microsoft has, for more than two decades, been a fountain of flawed design,…[Read more]

    • Thanks for the explanation, John. Very interesting and very depressing. Microsoft is starting to look more and more like the federal government. Soon they will start using stare decisis in their knowledgebase “explanations.”
Even the latest version (late 1990s) of VB 6 wasn’t compatible with the mouse wheel and it had to be put in as an add-in.…[Read more]

When I compose a comment the blockquote function does not work. I can enter the comment, and then select ‘edit’ and then the blockquote function does work.

It seems that when I go to a post directly the site is fairly responsive. But, if I used a link from my notifications then it can take a long time.

    • I have not observed noticeably slower response when clicking notifications as opposed to going directly to a post. Clicking a notification does, however, involve more work and network transactions between the browser and the server, since when you click a notification, the direct link takes to you to a page which marks the notification read.…[Read more]

    • BTW, I’m using Chrome. Is that a problem?

I wanted my latest OP to be in the “Humor” section. I went to the Humor section and thought by opening my topic there, it might end up in the Humor group… Did it? (It has the word “Trivia” in the title.) If I did not get it inside “Humor” then pls explain: how do I direct a new OP to be in any one forum over another?

    • I think you are talking about Categories, right?

I see the right categories were selected now.

    • When composing a post, you specify its categories in the “Categories” box at the right of the composition box (on narrow-screen devices, such as many mobile platforms, it may be at the bottom, below the composition window). Check the categories in which you wish the post to appear (you can check as many as you like) and, optionally, enter tag…[Read more]

Until there is understanding of the bug in groups, I think not using @username in groups is advisable.

  • ctlaw posted an update in the group Group logo of Bug ReportsBug Reports 3 weeks ago

here’s one @10cents where I put a hard return at the end

  • ctlaw posted an update in the group Group logo of Bug ReportsBug Reports 3 weeks ago

this is another test @10cents but i am typing after the username

  • ctlaw posted an update in the group Group logo of Bug ReportsBug Reports 3 weeks ago

    this is another test

    • Something in a update probably changed how the code handles @username

  • ctlaw posted an update in the group Group logo of Bug ReportsBug Reports 3 weeks ago

@10cents this is the test you wanted.

hey, did someone confuse me with TW? I’m not seeing notifications anymore. That is, the bubble number next to my avatar is now always ‘zero’.

    • This is odd. Nothing has been changed relating to notifications since 2018-03-21 and they seem to be working for me. When you go to your notifications page (use the drop-down from the “Activity” item in the menu at the top and select “Notifications”, or the “Notifications/Unread” item in the drop-down from the avatar at the top right), do you…[Read more]

    • HI, when I signed in this a.m. the Notification bubble showed a zero, however, there was a number of comments on you where are you post. That said, whatever was wrong is now right because when I just came back the bubble showed a 3, and yes, you ‘like’ was one of them.
So I guess all is ok. It could be my computer or browser (Brave) I guess.…[Read more]

I don’t use or want notifications. Can’t find any way to turn them off.

    • Are you talking about the “blue bubble” notifications or email notifications?

    • The Bubble ones. I like the email ones. I don’t use the bubble ones, so they stack up and it takes a while to delete them until you have under 25. Wishing for a banner to get rid of all read or unread, no matter the number of them. Cheers!

    • Gosh—I’ll have to recalibrate my user interface preferences. I was thinking about getting rid of the E-mail notifications entirely because the in-band notifications https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-band_signaling (the bubble and the drop-down) now duplicate the functionality of the E-mails, and allow you to individually follow them, clear them, o…[Read more]

Help ! Hi, I’ve been trying to write a post but every time I click save draft, it just deletes everything!!

    • I don’t know what’s happening, but when I look at pending drafts (from my administrator account, which lets me see everything), I see a draft saved by you titled “Links to a couple of videos worth a listen…” which has no content but does have categories and tags assigned. When you click on the dashboard at the top (it’s the icon that looks like…[Read more]

    • Yep. That’s the one. There is nothing in it except the title and tags because everytime I hit save draft, the screen ‘blinks’ like when saving something and then every thing I wrote just disappears. I just tried three more times. I think I’ll just delete it and try again another day.

    • What platform are you doing it on?

      Phone?
      Tablet?
      Laptop?
      Desktop?

    • My laptop. Same as I always use. I’ve not had this problem before. So, for now I will presume some level of user error and will re-start tomorrow. Good night.

    • This is a complete mystery to me. I have heard no other reports of anything like this happening.

It is tedious and trite, but have you tried flushing your browser cache? On April 4th, I installed an update to WordPress which modified some of the JavaScript that runs the site. These updates are not automatically pushed to users who may have a…[Read more]
