One simple question

If the GOP, with complete control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency, can’t come up with a better budget bill than this, what is the point of the GOP? The blue wave has been guaranteed now that there is no reason for GOP voters to bother showing up in November.

  1. Mark this as the day the music died.

The GOP just signed its own death warrant.  Do those dipshxxs in Congress really think “reaching across the aisle” like this will ensure their survival?  Shame on Trump for signing it.  He’ll be the last man standing after the next election, and will probably get reelected, but he can’t wage war single-handedly against the most powerful country in the world.

I’m sad today, because you are 100% correct Dr. Monkey.

Now is the time to rally to TEA Party candidates in GOP primaries.

After the Tea party in 2010, and ever since, I’ve been irritated with the GOP sad sacks. Only 100 reps voted against the latest abomination.  We’re screwed.

And thankfully mine was one. He has been battling windmills since he got there with little help.

What should have been done? Was that politically possible?

Trump could have vetoed it. McConnell could have gotten rid of the filibuster in 2017. The GOPe could stop fighting Trump every step of the way. They could do what they ran on and were elected to do. They have instead chosen to produce a 2k+ page monstrosity no one could have read before passing it. The entire system is broken, and unless a bus falls on Ryan and McConnell tonight, electing more Republicans will do absolutely nothing to fix it. The GOP needs to die at this point so a better party, one that actually has the stones to do what the claim to believe, can take its place.

The GOP has taken 18 months of opposition to Trump, watched it result in low turnout, and doubled down on the idiocy. They just guaranteed their base will stay home in November.  Maybe that’s the plan.

  6. I agree that was the way to go, Minky, but the crew in there now would have never had the guts to do that. They were too afraid of the stories that would have run against them.

And that’s the problem. Electing more Republicans without removing the entire leadership just keeps them in power. Nothing will change until it is torn down root and branch and built over from scratch. I don’t always agree with Rand Paul, but he is correct that passing a secretly crafted, massive bill without debate that no one could have possibly read due to the vote being rushed is not how this is supposed to work. Our federal government is fundamentally broken and tinkering around the edges won’t get it done.

  8. Yes, this assures a Democrat sweep in 2018 and likely another radical leftist president (sic) in 2020. We will then get the full-on progressive program with 70% income tax until the whole thing comes crashing down. It happened to the unsustainable Soviet Union and it can and will happen to unsustainable us. Maybe, just maybe – if our descendants are not already ruled by an Islamic republic – the Founding principles may be rediscovered. It may take a very long time.

Yeah, this assures a crappy GOP turnout, likely.  Today, I’m truly loathing the GOP “leadership”.  Despicable people, giving half a billion of our dollars to PP.  Hope they burn for that stunt.

There are some places where there are useful things that can be done.  There are a couple of good candidates running to replace Bob Corker in my state.  Supporting Chris McDaniel for Senate in Mississippi is the nearest out of state example to me, and it would be especially helpful to the conservative cause to elect him.   There are others.

Massive spending we don’t have the funds for, and compounding the problem, the things being funded are in direct contradiction to what Trump and the GOP claim to support. Planned Parenthood wasn’t defunded. No border wall. Sweetheart kickbacks for Schumer to get a NJ-NY tunnel.
