The White House Correspondents’ Dinner

I used to like watching the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The comedian usually knew how to take their shots with creativity and class. [Name edited out for not being family friendly. :-)] was about as deft as a jack hammer. Terrible. Good humor gets people on both sides of the aisle laughing. You know when you have failed when you have both sides cringing.

Trump does have a way of bringing the best out of the left. What really hurts them the most is realizing they aren’t that important any more.

The Correspondents’ dinner used to be a night to raise money and honor people then a lighthearted roast. Well, I hope they raised some money.

  1. I’m not going to seek out video clips of it, because already just the reports I’ve heard make the whole event sound crass. I don’t need to hear more from the baser side of humanity.

It seems to me that it’s an irony of modern man, that obnoxiousness is sometimes used to raise money for a good cause.

  2. The sad part is I bet the comedienne thought her jokes were funny. She had no idea of her place. It was a time to rib, not to use a Comedy Central flamethrower.

But I like Larry Koler at times.  (I am doing this before Larry does this to me.)

  4. I did not watch it.  Nor will I.

When an ‘act’ is too vile, viperous, and vulgar for even CNN?  Well, I have no interest in watching as allegedly emotionally mature and self-respecting adults voluntarily submit to  to self-invalidating speech.  Sad and sick; not to be sanctioned by giving it any attention.

I decided to edit out her name. Not worth the pixels.

TempTime, good move. Never feed a troll. They crave attention and will continue when they get it.

  6. But the left supports this. It is what they want. 100%. I find it hard to believe people on the left are really unhappy with this sort of thing. Never have been before.

It was a good call for President Trump to take this event off of his schedule.

He has bigger fish to fry to say the least. I have to say he endears himself to me more and more everyday; he will not allow himself to be a victim. Staging a Michigan rally was brilliant!

I grew up there and outside the wealthy suburbs of Detroit, rest assured he is burnishing his credentials for 2020.

I’ve never really approved of presidential attendance at the WHCD anyway because it requires many hours of speechwriters’ time not to mention that it distracts the Commander in Chief from serious duties.

Waste of taxpayers dollars yet again.

  8. While watching Sheila Tate on C-span book review, she mentioned that the First Lady spent an enormous amount of time practicing Second-hand Clothing for the 1982 WHCD.

I appreciate her efforts to help her husband politically but was this an appropriate use of time?

I think that was the Gridiron Dinner, Liz.

I stand corrected. I admit to confusion regarding all those self-aggrandizing media events.

They are very similar. I heard Nancy Reagan knock it out of the park with her performance.

There are many people on the left like there are many people on the right. I think some people on the left definitely thought this comedienne crossed the line. It was the wrong audience for that material. The upside is that it made Trump look good. It validated his reasons for not showing up.

She did but I prefer the Donald’s knack for knocking it out of the park in fly-over state rallies and getting a glimpse of Melania’s shoes during state visits!

The difference is, I know what they think. They don’t know what I think. Their messages are all we hear.

I can’t say I know what a person thinks. I know what a person says but I don’t know their thoughts. I take it for granted that most people think they are being kind from their prospective.

I think this take is mostly accurate especially the last part.

    https://edition.cnn.com/2018/04/29/politics/michelle-wolf-whcd-takeaways/index.html

from the above link:  “On a related note, her Netflix series, “The Break With Michelle Wolf” — comes on May 27. She couldn’t buy better publicity for that show than she got with her speech on Saturday night.”

From my perspective she could not have created worse.  Has she forgotten what happened to the other female ‘failed to be funny’ comedienne who thought acting-out sharing the results of  a beheaded President was funny?  You know the comedienne whose name I can no longer recall.

They hate @PressSec Sarah Huckabee Sanders because she represents every aspect of American womanhood that we admire: intelligence, grace, empowerment, patriotism, and beauty. The troll who trashed her at the #WHCD was too dim to memorize her own “jokes.” She had to read them.

He forgot her most impressive characteristic of all- composure under enormous pressure. This is what makes her so good at her job. She’s the best I’ve seen in years (including Ari and Dana).
