Ever Nevers

NeverTrumpers have had a lot of media attention lately. Most of this is editorials, not news, or, if news, it is simply recounting the latest chattering. Nevertheless, some recent nattering about Nevers was notable.

First up, there was a rash of Leftists pleading with Nevers to stay the course. They think the GOP is much better on account of the Nevers providing a drag anchor to impede conservatives’ progress. Here are two examples:

https://www.salon.com/2018/04/29/heres-why-nevertrumpers-should-stay-in-the-gop-it-might-help-save-democracy/

Here is a Leftist wringing his hands because he has just figured out that Nevers are irrelevant:

The above editorials should be enough to convince any conservative that Nevers should be shunned.

Here is a Never wringing his hands because he has just figured out that Nevers are irrelevant:

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/columnists/why-2020-will-be-trickier-for-nevertrump-conservatives

He is really glum, realizing how Never-ism is a spent force and will win no traction with conservatives in 2020:

NeverTrumpers won’t be able to make the argument that Trump is a liberal anyway and thus there’s not much cost in refusing to support him. He’ll have a record with a number of conservative accomplishments, and it’s quite likely that any Democratic nominee will be to the left of Clinton, making the contrast even more severe.

Rush Limbaugh spoke to the Media Research Center and defended himself against carping by Nevers:

Over at National Review, they ran at least five pieces by Nevers who were tut-tutting over Trump. I won’t link to them. It was just more of their usual stuff. (You should be happy that I don’t have to characterize their stuff.)

In the meantime, Trump is making real progress to advance the conservative cause.

Go, Trump, go!

  1. 10 Cents,  I don’t think the lyrics for that one work in this situation.

I don’t hear many Never pundits saying “I was wrong.”

I liked the title of this one: “Here’s why NeverTrumpers should stay in the GOP: It might help save democracy. It opens with “…the Republican Party is gravitating toward fascism.”

The nutty Left (redundant) is always going on about how Democracy Dies in Darkness™ and fascism. It’s always a six-alarm fire with those guys. But this thing was written by Kristol, Sykes (of the Weekly Standard), and Sasse. The last guy is a sitting Republican [!] senator. I expect to see this kind of hysteria from the Left, but from a US Senator allegedly on our side? If any more evidence were required, here it is. These guys have gone over to the other side.

You got the situation reversed, Bubba. “We can’t live without them.”

Billie, Jonnie, Johnboy, Monnie, Georgie, Freddie, Jaimie etc. I was wrong. How can we survive without you? ///////sarcaroo x 7

I think the correct term is “they have gone overboard” or “left the airplane without a parachute. The latter shows how well grounded they are. 😉

  5. I prefer the term “NeverRight”  . Not the Alt, not the Far, not the Extreme, not the Center, but the Never.

    Gimme an “N”….

We need to ignore these idiots who bet wrong and lost. The ones who redeemed themselves (Levin and others) came back and those who have not seen the writing on the wall by now are just silly.

They were the House of Lords of Conservatism and Conservatism decided to burn down the House of Lords and turn it into auxiliary parking and day care.

  6. I don’t think conservative media will recover until the Nevers are put out to pasture.  They are simply incapable of admitting that they (and their peers) should have voted for Trump in the general.  With what was known back then.

The 2016 election was a fever that swept over the country, and the fever left some permanently impaired.  I feel sorry for them.

I don’t think that their distress is caused by Trump fever.   I think the real cause is that they have found themselves to be the leaders of a whopping seven percent of Republican voters.

(It was nearly ten percent on election day 2016, and has declined with every ensuing conservative victory by Team Trump.   I think it will bottom out at about five percent, and the fact that they are subsidized is what will keep it from going lower than that.)

I think they will be with us until after Trump passes from the scene.   Subsidies will keep them going.

Once Trump is gone, they will make a big play to try to regain some of their lost following among conservative voters.  We who mock them will be pilloried by both the Nevers and their allies in Leftist mass media.
