  1. The article claims it was due to Cambridge Analytica.

I don’t think so. At the very worst Cambridge Analytica reveals the hypocrisy and corruption under the hood at Facebook.

Not to mention the CA revelation was four months ago or something like that. Investors do not wait months to pull their money out of a stock like that. My guess is that Facebook has discovered that close to 50% of its users are not real people and the advertisers were told and word hit the street.

What am I missing? The failures to meet estimates seem really small.

From what I understand of the stock market expectations are everything. If people think it will tank they sell it even if the numbers are good. It goes up often because people think it is the “Next Apple” even with bad numbers.

  4. There is an article at the WSJ … “Why Does Facebook Think I’m ‘Political’? The exposure of the Leftist bias of this privacy-stealing company has resulted in many terminated memberships. Sound familiar?

Agree. Not happy about the plunge, but I bought more today at a bargain basement price. This company isn’t going away anytime soon.

This is very true but particularly with FB. That stock has higher expectations than most; it is not enough to merely make a projection. For instance, Microsoft had good quarterly earnings this month and the stock escalated by several dollars in a NY minute.

And it turns out there are some other reasons for Facebook’s stock price slide.

The company is facing massive fines and possible government intervention as lawsuits pile up in the U.S. and around the world.

Don’t get me started on how govt works so very, very hard to diminish personal wealth.

Here’s what I got that they don’t- I’m smarter. And obviously so is our president.

  8. Given markets are forward looking, I thought the decline was most likely related to China changing Its mind on doing a deal with Facebook.
