TOTD 2018-8-8: A Good Enemy

I can’t come up with the quote but the best thing to have is a good friend but the next best thing is to have a good enemy. A good enemy will challenge us where a friend will let us slide. In that challenge we can become better.

  1. The closest I can come to an “original” was not exactly as mentioned, but….

Observe your enemies, for they first find out your faults.

    Antisthenes

Love your enemies; for they shall tell you all your faults.

    Benjamin Franklin

These might be better than the one I was thinking of, Gerry.  Speaking of enemies, where is Joan?

“I choose my friends for their good looks, my acquaintances for their good characters, and my enemies for their good intellects. A man cannot be too careful in the choice of his enemies. I have not got one who is a fool. They are all men of some intellectual power, and consequently they all appreciate me.” (Lord Henry in a well-known book).

A friend, always being a soon-to-become an enemy, might be better placed to stab you in the back. 😉

I have the ability to make friends. All my enemies like each other.
