TOTD 2018-09-07 The Trump Spectrum

I recently had the displeasure of interacting with the kind of Trump supporter the Nevers like to complain about.  This individual was on a rant denouncing Victor Davis Hanson as a NeverTrump traitor.  Yes, really – a guy who has debated vigorously with the NT movement and wrote a piece called the case for Trump” is a supposedly a NeverTrumper.  The article that caused this ruckus was one decrying his tweets as a distraction from his successes.  I actually thought he was confusing the hstorian for one of the gaggle of NT commentators.

So, where are you on the Trump scale?   The “reasonable” ends are Trump is always right or always wrong. (Reasonable in the sense of not involving supernatural stuff)  Jen Rubin is on the latter, I think she might implode if Trump praised her.

Then you have the insane ends with stuff like Trump is reincarnated zombie Hitler, or Satan in the flesh, opposed by people who think Trump is behind every conservative accomplishment since he was born or that he is a literal messiah.   These might need a log scale – I think some on the left hate Trump more than any other desire in their life.

So where are you?

  1. I am in the camp that thinks government money needs to used to pad television studio for their own protection. No sharp objects should be allowed either. I am Trump 2020 just out of spite and popcorn addiction.

  2. I was reluctant Trump.   I was NeverHillary.

    I am now ardent Trump.

He is a flawed champion, with flaws that have been thoroughly vetted by the Nevers.   However, with the fate of western civilization teetering on the brink of complete collapse, President Trump is our champion.   He is doing yeoman service on our behalf.   As such, regardless of his flaws, he should receive our enthusiastic and unwavering support.

  3. I was looking for someone who could beat Hillary or at least put up a fight before America sank beneath the waves.

I knew we needed tough , rich and media savvy with a strong ego to close.

That narrowed the field a lot.

Trump actually having a policy based on money and power was a bonus.

It helped that he was from Queens. I doubt the country could handle a Brooklyn guy, better the smoother  guy from Queens who would tone it down.

  4. You can find any type of DH anywhere, anytime you want.

We know why Trump was elected and why those who oppose him do so.  Let’s not waste words.  Are you in the battle against fascism/socialism and idiocracy or are you lending support to the fierce loyalists and patriots trying to retain the best nation in human history?  Nuance is for sissies!

Holy Moly!  Here in Ratville I can drink four glasses of wine, state my opinion and not be punished.   I love it here and have high hopes for huge growth.  Cheers.

  5. What was that person smoking? No human is completely infallible so anybody who thinks Trump can do no wrong is a little touched. I was only a full on supporter after the primaries. Currently, I am happy with how things have gone. I think his tweets are funny. It’s as if he knows just the right buttons to push to drive certain folks crazy. I just sit back and enjoy the entertainment. TKC, I think you are right about the Queens/Brooklyn thing.

  6. I started paying attention to Trump when the local Philly radio station repeatedly had cops calling in saying they & all their buddies were voting for him. He supports law enforcement and the military – the Democrats do not, it’s plain. I found I liked more & more of his policy proposals, and I’ve been a solid supporter since he won the primaries. Regarding his tweets and sometimes inartful comments, my response now methodically goes:

ME: augh, I wish he hadn’t said that.

    MEDIA: He’s Satan!

ME: You know, I’m okay with him saying that.

Americans love underdogs that scrap their way to the top, and the media continues to crown him The Ultimate Underdog. But the press just doesn’t get it.

  7. The answer to every criticism is: Trump isn’t Crooked Hillary.  And it’s pretty darn clear that Trump was the only Republican who could have defeated her.  He attracted the right votes (e.g., Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania), and the (many) people he alienated were mainly concentrated in places he didn’t need and/or was going to lose anyway.  The other Republican candidates were not going to pull that off; they were going to lose with style, but they were going to lose.

You can have the White House, the Supreme Court, or dignified tweets.  Pick any two.

“Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” — UCLA coach Red Sanders (later adopted by Vince Lombardi).

  8. I love VDH and I know he’s on our sode.  But also as I’ve written before, I’ve come to hate the “Trump is a disgusting, immoral  slimeball but I held my nose and voted” type pronouncements.  That’s just putting your neck on the NT chopping block.

i didnt see the VDH piece you’re referring to.  I’d agree with it  back when Trump was tweeting about Rosie O Donnell.  But I’m perfectly okay with Tweets like “DEAR IRAN: DO NOT EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN !”  They feel damn GOOD to me!

(BTW, it’s for that latter kind aTweet which, we read last week, Twitter is considering banning Trump.  They’re part of the mind control Lefty cabal which will not brook unequivocal, (gasp!) exclusive, defense of and loyalty to  our country.  Not even, or perhaps especially not,  from its President!    It’s “abusive”. )

So I guess you (yes even you , O Ratty! Judgment has already been rendered Elsewhere…)  might consider me  at the “extreme” end of Trump supporters.

BUT CONSIDER:  does the fact that I don’t wanna go around prefacing every remark with “sure, he has his faults” really make me extreme?

Did Dems talk that way about Buraq Hussein? Ever?

Would they have allowed US to get away with it?

  9. As someone who reads every word VDH writes, I can say he is quite supportive of Trump’s policies while not  unaware of his personal foibles. Calling Victor a Never Trumper is absurd.

  10. I, like MJB, was a reluctant Trump supporter.  I am much more supportive now that he’s demonstrated his policy preferences.  I wouldn’t say “ardent”, but he’ll get both my primary vote and general vote in 2020.

Side note:  When I find myself disagreeing with VDH — a rare occurance — I look in the mirror and ask myself “Who’s more likely to be wrony, you or VDH?”  Humbling.

Me, too.  Every word, everywhere.  Absurd is too mild, it’s a mark of insanity.  (Ya gotta know what you need to know and at least consider you might not know it all.)

  12. It is nice to know you have a promise from Kasich. When he says yes you know he will back it up with action. I particularly liked his speech at the convention, didn’t you? /sarcasm

Oh my GOD so fabulous!  Thank you for the reminder!

Where have you been? Has it been a place where the past was selectively edited out? Repressive regimes hate history. The are “hate facts” to move away from.

10Cents,  “hate facts”?   Oh that is so scary.  Did you make it up or is it something the Left actually says?  Cuz they would.  In fact they are  actually saying that by their attacks on the metal men…

I forgot who came up with this but John Walker and Brian use this phrase. It is a fact that one can’t say.  It is a “hate fact” to state that women are in anyway different then men that would be considered inferior to men but it is okay if women are considered superior.

John coined it as far as I know.

  17. In France, in almost all medias (press, online), the cursor for your President is frozen at : “insult him, write he’s a sociopath, try and make everyone thinks the U.S.A. should be a democracy fixed by presidenticide if possible” (hardly joking about that point : a few b.st.rds did say similar things and they meant it, a few months ago). The voices advocating a more rational approach are very, very *few*, such as here in the awful *Figaro* (which at *random* times remembers it’s *not* supposed to *only* publish leftists papers in disguise) :

    http://www.lefigaro.fr/vox/monde/2018/09/07/31002-20180907ARTFIG00306-arretons-de-prendre-donald-trump-pour-un-psychopate.php

(the title, really *uncommon* in the French mainstream press, is : “Let’s stop taking Donald Trump for a psychopath”, and there are still some reverence to leftism in it).

Should you decide (some day in the future, after you have solved your own local problems with your own leftists) to go back to the real heart of Europe and save it another time (whatever the reasons for that) from obvious menaces, you’ll have to hang a few of these leftists remaining, under the applause of the few local patriots not yet killed by the new barbarians.

I know of a few people who’d wish to replace, in this hypothesis, Americans with Russians : I sometimes reply : “Why not both ?”. 😉

Seriously : it’s weird your agencies are not able (or not interested ?) in fixing this “parti-pris hostile” (“hostile bias” ?) against your President. Diplomatically, it’s a real shame and be sure MSM propaganda does not reflect the advice of *everyone* (roughly speaking, I’d say 30% do not believe nor support the MSM bias).

P.S. : Personally, I am not qualified to have a valuable advice about Mr Trump. From what I know and from what I’ve read (not from MSM), I just think he’s good for the U.S.A. — now, I’d like someone similar to be good for France, and here, we’re *far* from that hope. 🙁

States have interests, not silly “friendship links”, and that’s why politics should be played as chess or go : with brains, not with feelings.
