House Investigation Reversal

The GOP lost the House of Representatives.   Chairmanships will flip from Republican to Democrat.   The House Committee on the Judiciary will go from control by Bob Goodlatte to control by Jerrold Nadler.   Nadler has said that the current investigations will end and new investigations will begin.

Here is Goodlatte’s summary letter:

Dear Attorney General Whitaker and Director Wray,

With the 115th Congress coming to a close, the investigation into decisions made by DOJ and FBI and related interviews conducted by the House Committee on the Judiciary and Committee on Oversight and Government Reform have, at least for the time being, been concluded.  …

The letter goes on to beg for a public release of transcripts that Goodlatte sent over.   I hope that Whitaker starts a new special counsel into obstruction of justice and ethics complaints about senior FBI and DOJ Deep Staters.

You should read the letter; it is very short.   Also, here are links to reporting by Leftist media:

  1. Goodlatte and Trey Gowdy wrote a separate letter to Mitch McConnell, laying out the case for why it would be appropriate for the Senate to take up the investigation or for a Special Counsel investigation.

  2. The letter from Goodlatte and Gowdy is long and has the goods, including:

Regrettably, our joint investigation was impacted by institutional protectionism on the part of DOJ and FBI.  For example, the agencies delayed the production of relevant documents and failed to provide witnesses in a timely manner.  DOJ continues to refuse to declassify documents necessary to the investigation despite the President’s request the documents be declassified.  Additionally, the Office of the Special Counsel has cited an “ongoing investigation” to deny or delay Congressional access to relevant information and in one instance retrieved documents provided to Congress, arguing the documents were improvidently produced in the first instance.

  3. Taunting:

The Democrat likely to take command of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff, chided the GOP duo’s effort in a tweet Friday evening. “This is how the House Republican effort to undermine Mueller by ‘investigating the investigators’ ends. Not with a bang, but with a Friday, buried-in-the-holidays whimper, and one foot out the door,” Schiff, D-Calif., wrote.

I have to admit I kinda agree with Schiff.  This is pathetic.  “Oh, if only we had more TIME…”  yuh.  Whatcha been doing for he last two years, bozos?

They have been asking questions and requesting information.   When they were stiffed, they issued subpoenas.   When incomplete responses to the subpoenas were handed over, they held new hearings and sent new requests, followed by new subpoenas.    As far as the Deep State goes, the wagons were circled long ago.   Team Trump is trying to work their way into the inner workings of DOJ and FBI, but the denizens cover for each other and also they keep the House Republicans and Team Trump busy responding to their leaks and the Big Media spin that follows.

This is a particularly thick swamp to drain.   I think it is time for Trump to fire some more of the bad actors who deleted files in the face of congressional requests for information.   They should be brought up on violation of the government records rules, ethics violations, obstruction of justice and also charges of incompetence.   The entire mess should be declassified and opened up for some sunlight.

  6. I am beginning to worry that President Trump is not more aggressive towards the Deep State because they are blackmailing him.   I figure they have some old bribery charges or worse hanging over Don Jr. or perhaps The Donald himself, and they are keeping that as ammunition to prevent a thorough housecleaning.

  7. I think Trump simply didn’t realize how deep the rot actually was. He figured he won the election and that was that.

Nope. Not only has the left actively opposed everything he is trying to do- it’s been fascinating to watch Rachel Maddow go from an anti-war activist to someone who is shrieking with rage over the removal of US troops from Syria- but the hapless GOP establishment has been fighting him all the way too. That’s also been fascinating to watch.

It’s going to be an interesting state of the union speech this year.

  8. Goodlatte is my congressman, and he has been thoroughly disappointing on this. He and Gowdy talk and talk but do nothing. It’s going to take civil war for real changes to occur.
