Nathan Phillips activism buried by media

Native American Drummer Nathan Phillips was very busy on Saturday.   After a full day of protesting and drumming at the “Indiginous Peoples March,” which had been scheduled for right after the March for Life on Friday in hopes of garnering some attention, he was the toast of media on Saturday.   Leftist “journalists” clamored all day for interviews.   He said some things to some media outlets, and he said some other things to other media outlets.   It would be really interesting to put together a montage of his contradictory statements, but that is not my purpose for this post.

I just searched Google News for “Nathan Phillips.”   There were lots and lots of hits.   Buried way down at the 42nd place in the search results was an item that reported on his activities on Saturday evening.   No, it was not in a mass media outlet, it was a story from a small conservative niche media outlet.   Catholic News Agency (yes, the little guys, not the National Catholic Register) broke a story about a protest event that was led by the intrepid “elder” of the Omaha Nation.

Phillips led a group of about 20 who started to enter the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (400 Michigan Ave NE, Washington, DC).   Since the evening mass was in progress they were stopped by security guards who ran to close and lock the doors.   They pounded on the doors for a few minutes, and drummed on their drums.  Then Phillips made a statement.

Just a typical Saturday evening in Washington, DC, I suppose, which is a magnet for all sorts of crazies.   But you would think that since the entire country is still arguing over the events of Friday in which Phillips marched into a group of high school kids and beat his drum in the face of one of them, you might think some mass media outlet would pick up the story.

Nope.   Crickets.   It doesn’t help their narratives.

The Enemy of the People were very aptly dubbed “the drive-by media” by Rush Limbaugh over 20 years ago.   They mangled the story, fueled social media hysteria that got the kids and their parents doxxed, threatened, with enough threats to the Diocese to get their school as well as Diocesan offices closed for security reasons.

Then when it turned out that there was video evidence of how badly wrong their reporting was, they dropped the story.   None of them ran the item about Phillips’s Saturday evening attempt to disrupt worship at the Basilica.   As near as I can tell, the only legacy media outlet to cover this story is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and I only found them because the media critics at GetReligion linked to them.

If any other legacy media carried this story, Google is making sure we don’t know about that.

Big Media is a thoroughly Leftist project, and, as such, an anti-American project.   They are to be scoffed and mocked at every opportunity.   They pretend to do journalism.   What they actually do is serve as the propaganda operation of the Progressive movement.

  1. The story at Catholic News Agency:

When this was covered by the media critics at GetReligion, they clearly expected other news outlets to pick up the story:

  2. The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. story is a one-sided version from a woman who was part of Phillips’s group on the Basilica steps.   As journalism, this is really low quality.   The only voice is hers; there are no quotes from anyone representing the Basilica, nor any Catholics, nor any third parties, and the reporter did not ask the woman any questions:

  3. Not only has his activism been buried,  but his entire freeloading life.

Near as I can make out, he’s was fed, clothed and maintained by the state of Omaha and /or the US govt  all his life.  He was in a series of foster homes (meaning the state paid white famikies to give him a home) till he joined the military.  He has been in and out of prison for assault and DUI  charges.  Has he ever held a job? That’s not rhetorical, I’ve been trying to find out.  He’s a total fraud,  a poseur, a mountebank.

An “elder”?  WTF?  If that’s the case, if hes  so wise and revered by his “tribe”, why doesn’t he try to do something useful for the next generation of his people, instead of camping out on the Nationla Mall in a teepee, terrorizing teenagers,  and breaking up church services?

Does he really want his grandchildren to go back to living like his great-great grandparents did?   That is insane.  Even we pampered beneficiaries of “Western civilization”  wouldn’t want that for our progeny.  Life has gotten better, longer, less painful, in the last two centuries.

I read the statement at the basilica.  He wants the Catholic Church to give the “indigenous peoples”  land and reparations.  Scusi, ma… didn’t our country already do that?   Also be careful hat you wish for: the “Clovis Mafia” notwithstanding, the American Indians are no longer generally considered to be the ur population of our continent.

He oughta take his medicine show to Spain; they were the main font of Catholic missionaries and are still rabidly  Catholic.  (If you don’t believe me, spend Holy Week there sometime.)

This ol’ Tribal Tartuffe made what all of the US should have seen as a ridiculous, risible  spectacle of himself, pounding a skin drum and bellowing nonsense into a boy’s face.   He and his ilk are parasites on our society, our generosity.

And like Moliere’s original Tartuffe, he  will ruin and bankrupt us, his bamboozled host–with our own grovelling collaboration.  It is, truly and tragically, theater of the absurd.

  4. Regarding Phillips I don’t know what “elder” means.   I think it is just conferred by Leftist media who promote his schtick.

The only thing I could see that was used in reference to Phillips from a source that looked like it came from the Omaha Nation was “holder of a sacred pipe.”

I want to forget this guy. I don’t want to give him the attention he craves.

Leftists will not let you forget.   Slate has a new piece condemning the Catholic white boys of Covington, while HuffPo has a new piece lauding N. Phillips.   Both articles are featured near the top of the default feed at the Google News aggregator.

Exactly.  This is the point of my postYour Lyin’ Eyes.  The Left is now completely untethered from any pretense of determining facts.  You would think everybody would be appalled but–as you point out, apparently not.

Please remind me about Dr. Ford. I was starting to forget about her.

I doubt this news item will last much longer.
