Verbal Primacy, not aka Kaiser Soze

I read much discussion about tribalism, identity politics and such.

One of the great powers of America is it recognized the power of tribes, but redefined it as a tribe of Americans, open to all who would play by the rules.

Trump is merely a counter to the Anti American tribalism being practiced where race, gender, sexual disorientation are superior to being an American.

We need to begin fighting this out verbally where we force Americanism to trump race, gender and such.

People who put race before America , Gender before America are not members of the American Tribe.

Race and Gender divisions need verbal challenges to their primacy. Every damn time.

  1. It’s not entirely clear that the American model works when cultural diversity is so pronounced. Even if the melting-pot model is enthusiastically re-embraced, which I doubt will happen, it may not be reasonable to expect certain groups to integrate since their core values are so antithetical to the founding values of the republic.

To pick an example at random, consider a religion premised on the idea that religious law is supreme over civil government and that you must die if you leave the religion. It’s hard to see how that’s going to fit in.

  2. It is not going to fit in.  However, to get assimilation, that comes with the American tribe being superior for the children and grandchildren to the original.

Beliefs that do not work do not win.

Second- and third-generation Muslims in Europe are the ones who become mujahideen.

Increasingly, young second and third-generation European Muslims, citizens of Western European countries born in Western Europe to first-generation Muslim immigrants, from such disadvantaged communities are joining the ranks of Islamist radicals and terrorists. More troubling, potentially, young second and third- generation European Muslims from middle and upper class families who are relatively well educated and appear to have assimilated success fully into the Western European societies into which they were born are also joining the cause of radical Islamism.

    You knew that, right?

  4. A society must run on shared values that have a “long shelf life”. If things are set by one over fifty percent then the society won’t last.

People came to America to get away from bad governments but now people want to have those ideas here so that our government can be just as bad. Political entropy?

  5. Lose enough tactical fights, and your superior strategy, goals, and morals won’t matter.  You and tour lofty ideals will be dead, supplanted by inferior specimens across the board.

Civilizations do fall.  The good guys do lose.  Bigly.

  6. DocLor is right and so is TKC — DocLor addresses the “now that the horse is out of the barn and beating us to death with its hooves” aspect of where things have gotten, and TKC is addressing the way we got here.

The way for TKC’s advice to become useful is in ruthless, cold-hearted, me-first-and-to-Hell-with-you rejection of the special pleading to make America more like some other poop-hole just because some turds have slipped the bowl.

Agree that there is a possible way forward but there’s no chance it will be taken. The civic nationalist approach is a dead end.

  8. In Europe, the Islamic beliefs do work for a culture versus the welfare state . The ones that work , win. Europe has never been America and has only functioned as a decent place to live with our protection from each other.

Do not read my point as strategic but tactical.

We need to confront a racial argument with “If you put race before America I cannot support you. If you put Gender before America, I cannot support you.”

Right now, when a racist or gender position is made, we acquiesce to it’s primacy. Stop it.

The ‘patient’ is not them but it includes ‘us’.  Americans follow leadership when it all goes to hell.  I do fear the leadership will be neighborhood to neighborhood and not nationwide unless POTUS has a few more miracles up his sleeve.

I believe that TKC 1101 means to say “beliefs that do not work do not win in the end.”

Russian Communism, for example.   Launched in 1919, it had a great run and many Leftists thought it would achieve global dominance.   After 70 years they ran out of resources and had confiscated and spent the entire wealth of one seventh of earth’s land mass.   The whole shebang collapsed in a rush, shortly after contending as a superpower.

For many years it looked formidable.   It looked like a tale of the triumphant collective; a tale of prowess and vigor.   But it was always a fundamentally bad idea, founded on a bundle of fundamentally bad ideas.   And as we look back on it now, it appears as a tale of misery, death, lies, and tyranny.   How many million Soviets were murdered by their own government, or deliberately starved to death, or lived in abject poverty and government-enforced ignorance?   How many other countries experienced violence and foolishness due to the export of bad ideas from the Soviet Union?

Many of our young people do not know the history of the Soviet Union.   They have all sorts of wrong ideas about it.   Their lack of knowledge makes them easy prey for the charlatans that want to sell Communism to them, dressed up as “Democratic Socialism.”

We have a heavy lift before us.   Our message will fall on deaf ears until we undertake a large effort of education in the real history of the previous century.

That’s cold comfort for the tens of millions dead, the tortured, and their families. Maybe all bad ideologies fail in the end but that eventuality may require many decades or even centuries. Meanwhile, generations have their lives destroyed. “Beliefs that do not work do not win in the end” is a proposition of strictly academic interest if you are living through it.

Note that the context of my response was Islam, not communism. Turns out that Islam has proven significantly more durable and successful than communism. The Battle of Vienna was a close call and you’d probably be praying at towards the East using a rug if it had gone the other way. As things are going now, you might yet get the chance. There’s another proposition: the most intolerant wins. Hope you’re not too fond of bacon, ’cause it’s not halal.

Some economist guy or other once said, “In the long run, we are all dead.” He was rightly mocking the kind of thinking that says don’t worry, if you wait long enough, everything will be OK. That might be the only thing he was ever right about but it was a valid point.

Oh, yes.   The history of Communism is tens of millions murdered, and whole nations thrown into turmoil, with bloodshed, theft, imprisonments, impoverishments, famines and calamities for each generation.   Conservatives recognize bad ideas, consider the likely outcomes, and then work to oppose those bad ideas.   Our problem is that it is hard to explain anything in the age of low attention spans.   Which I why I referred to the needed education regarding this history as a heavy lift.

Note that the context of my response was Islam, not communism. Turns out that Islam has proven significantly more durable and successful than communism. The Battle of Vienna was a close call….

More and more Americans are learning the dismal history of Islam, and are gaining an understanding of the grave threat from that quarter.   I hope we are not too late about spreading the needed information.
