Academia is lost. Time to burn it all down and rebuild from the ground-up.

Cambridge has rescinded an offer for a fellowship to Jordan Peterson, after faculty and students raged. “No hate at Cambridge! We’re inclusive here!”. Yeah, inclusive unless…. oh hell, I’m tired of even saying it. It’s beyond obvious by now. The Academy is at best a farce, and at worst, a threat. It’s time to end it.

Academia, as a system, as a profession, and as an institution is lost to Western Civilization now. Worse, it’s made the very destruction of our civilization in the name of Cult-Marx revolution its central mission. Proof of this is so abundant now as to be more or less beyond debate (the science is settled! Ha! Screw YOU, hippies!).

We need to look at ways to replace it. Private great books study centers for liberal arts, dedicated engineering, business, and medical training institutes sans the college trappings for our other needs. I have zero confidence in the so-called for-profit colleges, but I simply see no way to reform the University system . Pour the gas, light a match, and watch it turn to dust. Then get busy with building the Anti-Universities. We shouldn’t play along with this farce any longer.

  1. “In the name of inclusivity we must exclude anyone who has a different point of view.”

I just can’t believe these people can’t see their own stupidity. They are proving the point far better than Jordan Peterson of their foolishness.

  2. The best hope is online education. The principal obstacle is credentialism. Rising costs will help the cause. The academy will fight tooth and nail to keep their monopoly. This is a struggle we can’t afford to lose.

This is the key to everything related to education today. Need intensive effort here if anything is to be changed. Teaching certifications for elementary and secondary programs must be attacked as well.

The principal obstacle is the government telling you that you can’t do it.

Credentialism should collapse in a world where the names GM, AT&T, IBM, and General Electric have never awed anyone under 40, let alone US Steel, Sears, RCA, Alcoa… If Facebook and Google gave out college degrees, most students would prefer those names to all but a top 10 traditional University.

That being said, as soon as someone accuses the Dr. Lorentz Online University of being racist/sexist/___phobic for only giving out BS Physics degrees you will find all employers boycotting your students.

  5. As if I needed any more proof, here’s NYU’s new Reporting on the Far Right course. And they’ve hired Talia Levin… the frothing lefty who accused a crippled vet of having Nazi tattoos… to teach it.

Lest you think this kind of thing is an anomaly, here’s other journalism courses at NYU:

    • JOUR-UA 301.002: Writing Social Justice
    • JOUR-UA 204.003: Covering the Earth
    • JOUR-UA 204, section 002: Race, Journalism, and Justice

Even NeverTrump Neocons see how bad this is.

He got one thing wrong. Neutron Bombs were created to kill people but leave property intact. Nope. Nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

    Burn. It. Down.

  6. When my daughter was born in 1994, I could not believe we’d still have this 4 year residential college system by the time she was old enough.

But what happened? A total doubling down on it. It became more important, more prestigious,  than ever.

For an exorbitant amount of money, you send your kid off to live in a dorm room which you yourself would not stay in for even one night if it were a motel. And it’s no longer “ room and board”; food isn’t included.

It’s based on a past reality, where there were few centers of higher learning, so if they were distant, travel back and forth would have been impractical or impossible, and where the terms had to be suspended in the summer months to allow the young scions to return home and work.

    So quaint!

I dealt with tnis in my recent post,  Academic Dreamers.

Let people earn fully accredited degrees working at home in their childhood bedrooms if they want.

That’ll quickly separate the men from the pajamaboys.

No substantive reasons for this not to be the process after the accreditation  barrier is nullified.

  8. I think the old model will pass away when a better model supersedes it. I think a partnership with industry would be the way to go. If the new system was more prestigious the old system would be ridiculed for the joke parts of it is.

  9. Everyone needs to support Hillsdale College.  Hillsdale is the best argument against “academia”.  Disown your alma mater like Ray and I did.  Immediately support Hillsdale.  You will never regret it.

We have to get conservatives to quit giving to their alma maters.

We need to stop the Feds from funding scholarships for lunatics.

Yes; we ought to put the federal government out of the business of awarding scholarships.   Outside of the scholarships that the military services award, eliminate everything but Pell grants, and then figure out how to offload Pell grants to the States.

Most State governments already have scholarship programs of their own.

The current model will not die on its own. It has to be murdered.

John Derbyshire got to the heart of WHY this monster continues to grow: he posits that after businesses were forbidden to use IQ tests and aptitude exams during the hiring process to weed out applicants that were unsuited, Megacorps needed SOME method of determining if a candidate had at least a minimal level of competency. They basically started using the bachelor’s as that minimum sign of competency. This is why so many jobs require a degree now even if the applicant didn’t study anything about the job field he’s applying for. Many of these kinds of lower level office jobs didn’t require a degree, just competency, intelligence, and some basic skills like typing. Now the TPS Reports jobs are being filled with kids whose education consisted of marching against the patriarchy and reading the Vagina Monologues.

So business piled on and supported Academia right as the tenured radicals were taking control of the system. Now Academia, like some alien body snatcher plague, has eaten Megacorps alive from the inside out.
