  1. OMG can I attest to THAT! Replacing my phone with my right hand, I braked with the left going around a curve, and totally faceplanted.  Well, face and scalp wounds: good blood supply, so healing is fast.

  2. I’m not one to whine about my health because I know it is boring but in November/2018 some man in a Range Rover drove through a red light and demolished the passenger side of my car. Unfortunately, I was sitting in that seat and have gone through four surgeries since then for a shattered patella, wrist, and two plastic surgeries for the 8 inch gash on my forehead.

Thank G-d I live where I do because the forehead and wrist are totally healed; still in physical therapy for the knee but at least I can walk if not run!

BTW, the driver of that ridiculous car got time and a close friend who is one of the city’s greatest “ambulance chasers” is on my case pro bono.

Needless to say, my feelings about people who text or call behind the wheel are severe. They should be shot.

    10 Cents:
I see texting on biking all the time. I haven’t seen any accidents.

Then you’re not watching carefully as they are not.

I know you have not seen what I have seen so your response makes sense to you. There is a big difference living in a place where bicycles are still a big form of transportation.

Nonsense. I go out to get the mail everyday and see Le Tour on a residential street every morning riding outside the bike lane with phones in hand. There have been numerous accidents between cars and bikes in my city and both drivers and riders are guilty because of their damn cell phones.

It’s gotten so bad the City Council is now getting involved.

Would you like to tell me about the streets of Japan now? 🙂

Why would I? I write about what I know- the United States of America. Maybe texting and biking work in your country but it doesn’t in mine. My city has all of 40,000 residents and it’s a problem even on this small a scale.

  7. I thought it was a good clip. I edited that out of a much larger video clip for your enjoyment and discussion.

I wonder about the laws / rules in Japan, is it the vehicle operator’s responsibility if an accident occurs under a texting cyclist encounter.

In this case I think the cyclist might try and sue the property owner for putting that post there. (Yep, I can see that happening in the land of frivolous lawsuits.)

I know I have seen signs at train stations in Japan warning about walking and texting.

I think I heard that if you are a car driver and hit a pedestrian or a bike rider it is your fault because you were negligent even when you weren’t.
