I Read The News Today. Oh Boy!!

it  seems  it has finally dawned on the patient, stoical people of the UK that actually, their elected representatives do not intend, not ever, really, to do their bidding.   They said they would let the people decide whether to Leave or Remain in the E.U., they put it to the people—but, um, they didn’t like the people’s answer.

Maybe,  if you are  British, you can follow what has been going on in Parliament.  I have tried and I can’t.  But whatever it is, it has stalled.  And it appears the people have lost patience at last.

Nigel Farage’s new Brexit Party is surging in polls, both domestically and in connection with the E.U.parliamentary elections ( of course Britain was s’posed to be gone before those, and it  looks like the E.U. bureaucracy is gonna wish she were!)

i can’t  wait  for my next issue of the TLS, (the London Times Literary Supplement ) to which I’ve been subscribing for….o god, I reckon 30+ years.  They have been so anti Trump and, in my opinion, anti-American, and not only when reviewing  a history or  political science tome.  I’ve written them twice.  Once was June 2016 when they put a disgusting cartoon of Trump on the cover.  I told the editors he was going to win.  They very promptly emailed me back, so sorry if we hurt your feelings, there, there,  you could be right of course(when pigs fly..).  Then a few months ago, their cover headline was America Turns Right, and they had a cartoon of a Klansman on the cover.  Once again the editor promptly emailed back that he loves the US ! and he had “thought long and hard”  before using that image.   Oh really?  And yet—they did use it?   Did they check the stats on present Klan membership?

Their attitude (and that of the members  of the British intelligentsia whom I’ve personally  encountered) toward Brexit has been pretty much like the Dems toward Trump voters: how embarrassing that an illiterate, nativist rabble somehow    got out more of the vote than PLU….well, never mind, we have our ways, they will not, of course,  get what they voted for, and it will never happen again.  It took a while for the “Leave”  Britons to start fighting back: like us, they naively thought that winning the election would count for a lot more than it has turned out to do.   They, and we, should not  have to take to the streets.  In a democracy, we are told, elections have consequences..  We did our bit:we voted!

It felt to me like  the Brexit vote was a harbinger of Trump’s victory.  And now, in spite of the Global Left’s supercillious efforts to  convince us that both were only our dream and their nightmare,  the jolly  old English  are coming to the front again!  Just in time for 2020!

As it should be. Kudos to you for following UK politics all these years when it’s all I can do to keep up with the rascals in all three American branches of govt plus the market. Of course, all of the above are closely entwined and I’m beginning to feel as if I operate as a soothsayer!

It used to be so simple: profits/earnings reports/competent leadership were key. Now it’s all about hype. See Tesla as a good example of my complaint.

  2. Given the modified proportional nature of the European Parliament elections, Brexit may win a plurality in England. The semi-leftist Change UK, which seems to want to dethrone LibDem as leading narcissistic party should also do well.

Ignoring the likely destruction of UKIP, Tories will take the biggest hit. Labor will smell blood and will do whatever they can to have a vote of no confidence to trigger early parliamentary elections. If so, they could win an outright majority alone or with SNP due to the Brexit party splitting off Tory votes.
