is how Falstaff describes the ragtag company he’s been tasked to lead.
But I think it perfectly describes the Left in our country today.
They have no clue how vastly superior, in terms of human comfort and yes, dignity; in terms of everything that matters, “every good/ By quiet natures understood” as Yeats put it, their own despiséd country is, compared to what has gone before, and what still exists elsewhere on the globe.
Theirs are the idle discontents of dwellers in Paradise.
If human voices do wake them,
May they drown.
