Come Fourth!

…Henry IV, part 1, that is:  I’m gonna see it on Sunday, so I’m re-reading it.

“..the cankers of a calm world and a long peace”

is how Falstaff describes the ragtag company he’s been tasked to lead.

But I think it perfectly describes the Left in our country today.

They have no clue how vastly superior, in terms of human comfort and yes, dignity;  in terms of everything that matters,  “every good/ By quiet natures understood” as Yeats put it, their own despiséd country  is, compared to what has gone before, and what still exists elsewhere on the globe.

Theirs  are the idle discontents of dwellers in Paradise.

If human voices do wake them,

May they  drown.

  1. Great!  Is it going to be a real production, set at the time and place it should be set, dealing with the context of the original time of the play?

  2. I agree with Jzdro; I hope you get a solid presentation.

And, I agree with your assessment of the American Left.   They are grown so soft that they do not recognize that their own policy recommendations will lead to hard times that soft persons will not survive.

  3. Pa Shakespeare Festival has at least one production every season where they stage it “as Shakespeare’s original cast would have”.  The actors learn their lines, show up, raid the wardrobe to improvise costumes..minimal scenery, only about 4 days’ rehearsal.  So I dk about the costumes.

But I do know  both Hal and Hotspur are being played by girls.

And this is quite au courant!  At the Globe in London they’re doing all 3 Henry plays, and Hal is being played by a black actress.

Personally id love to see Melissa McCarthy as Falstaff….

We must take what we  can get .  Soon it’ll be like Brave New World;  the Bard will be banned.  There’s definitely a move to de-throne him.

Y’know what I was thinking, a propos of the Left seeming to have no idea of historical events nor current world conditions:

there has never been a time when there was less excuse for such ignorance.  Everybody has iPads or personal computers; everyone can educate and inform themselves.

However talented they may be, the Company’s anti-cultural message is based on their intersectionality scores.

I am surprised you didn’t go for “Hank-ering Four Shakespeare”, Hyp.

I like to call Henry V  “Hank Cinq”.

    In French that rhymes, right?

How about “Hank of Lank Part Two”?

That is very attractive.  Participants self-select on the bases of love of the Bard and love of a good time.
