Peak Absurd

Ross Douthat has a column in the NYT today entitled The Case for Bernie, which actually includes the phrase “the conservative’s case for Bernie.” He may as well have written “the conservative case for socialism.” But don’t worry too much; Douthat “technically” prefers “a moderate like Biden or Amy Klobuchar.” Whew! That’s a relief.

This is the latest in a seemingly endless series of “the conservative case for …” pieces by alleged conservatives. We’ve finally reached the point where Conservative Inc is advocating socialism because, I guess, OrangeManBad. This is even worse than Bill Kristol. What’s next, the conservative case for communism?

Oh, way to go!  You said it out loud!

I just followed John’s lead and found this:  there is a strong conservative case to be made for single payer.

  2. I doubt we have reached the peak. There are too many people willing to go the extra mile for “the good of the country”. (I didn’t say which country, did I?)

This is amusing to run every now and then.

Here’s a version from August. You don’t even need to finish typing for.

Edit: that’s DuckDuckGo instead of Gulag so it is not 100% leftist.

What is the difference between a Quisling and a Conservative, Doc?

  5. Let’s face it if “conservatives” were making the case for genderless marriage (in the pages of National Review, and elsewhere) it’s long been hard to tell what exactly they are conserving.

  6. Conservatism is totally dead to me so I couldn’t give a rat’s derriere about whether a conservative case can be made for socialism or, for that matter, capitalism (I’ve come to the horrifying realization that both ideologies are seriously flawed). Conservatism as it currently exists doesn’t actually conserve anything—it is basically a death-cult of Mammon. I’m out.

It is not many places that you can run into the phrase “a death-cult of Mammon”.  I like it. It sounds like a heavy metal band.

  8. Why are some of these media types being considered “conservatives” or “Republicans”? It was like last election where Claire on a “conservative” website voted for Hillary. If you are going to vote for the other party, go to the other party, right?

This. The clown show that calls itself “conservatism” is nothing more than a confederacy of liars, scumbags, grifters, and two-bit con artists. Of that, the legacy site was (and presumably still is) a sterling example.

This is what makes Nevers Nevers.

These people were always centrists.   They chose the Republican Party because they had family or fraternity connections to some campaign or another, and wormed their way into the GOP.  Occasionally they would switch to media, or switch back, always burnishing credentials as Republicans.   The ones who could write well and were assiduous at sucking up to the right Establishment people got positions as Pundits.

Once they achieved pundit status with Republican credentials, of course they could claim to be “conservative.”  They claimed to be the voice of the “center right,” while all the time they never changed their centrist convictions.

And now Leftist mass media find them exceedingly useful.   They get trotted out to represent the “conservative” side of any issue.   This allows Leftist mass media to portray any debate on any issue as one where the entire world of reasonable positions runs the gamut from center-left to Leftist extreme.   They have been doing this so long that what is called a “centrist” position is one that would have been called leftist only three or even two decades ago.   Mass media journalism has quit reporting actual conservative positions.   They pretend that the Nevers are conservative, and their viewers never get the full range of what ought to be political discourse in America.

They are Quislings, and should be called out as such at every opportunity.

And that’s being generous! I used to think that Milton Friedman was an enlightened genius, now I think that he was a delusional idiot (that’s assuming  his intentions weren’t nefarious…and I’m not so sure about that)

Of that the legacy site was (and presumably still is) a sterling example.

Funny you should say that because I just cancelled my monthly auto-renewal (I had the lowest level membership that only allows you to view the member-feed). There’s some good stuff on there (always on the member-feed), but I just can’t stomach it anymore.

Would you flesh some of these ideas out and write a post?

I really appreciate the invitation and encouragement…I would, except for two reasons: 1) I’m still trying to figure out what the hell is going on (I don’t claim to have any great insight or understanding) and 2) I don’t think that some of my thoughts would be palatable, even for such an open forum as Ratburger.

I don’t want anyone calling Randy a scumbag, grifter, and two-bit NeoCon artist. It will be okay to say that about Wandy Rebster though.

Well not so fast Dime. As for Claire and her ilk, sure one might wonder what it is exactly they are doing voting Hillary and calling themselves “cons” or Reps. There was not one issue championed by Hill to suggest there would be one conservative issue victory—outside of forever war.

For others there is a valuing of issues and ranking them by those values. For me, attacking the national security state is issue number one, and any candidate willing to do that gets my vote.

Who are the Top Absurd Peak Conservatives? I need a list.

    1) David French—tranny library readings to kids are A-okay with that one. He also bemoans the evangelical support of Trump.

    2) Jonah Goldberg—the only “libertarian” I know of who advocates the US invade third world countries on occasion to prove that the US means business.

    3) John Bolton—this man is a warmongering wack job.

    4) John Yoo—can you say “the conservative case for the surveillance state”?

That’s all I got off the top of my head.
