Daniel Hannan: “You are losing a bad tenant, but gaining a good neighbour.”

Daniel Hannan, Conservative member of the European “Parliament” for South East England since 1999, gave his final speech in that institution yesterday, prior to Britain’s departure from the European Union on 2020-01-31.  He notes that the inevitable crack-up of the “European Project” began with the Maastricht Treaty in 1992 and the subsequent steamrolling of European integration into a railroad-era continental-scale empire over the referenda, objections, and democratic institutions of its unwilling subjects.

Hannan has been one of the most eloquent voices opposing the European Union and its institutions and for the promising future awaiting a sovereign and independent Britain free of its shackles, as he sketched in his 2016 book What Next.  Whether the leaders of his party in Westminster deliver on this promise or throw it away in their usual fashion remains to be seen.

  1. Notice how we’re not hearing anything about Brexit happening tomorrow, here in our country?  Earlier this morning, I looked up the status, about  which we hadn’t heard much since Boris’ glorious victory.
Not that we needed any more proof, nay, not one iota! but this shows yet again how wedded our news media are to the Leftist narratives.  They don’t like Brexit.  They rightly understand that it is somehow related to Trump’s  election and his remarkable staying power.   So it’s just like:  yeah, yeah, move along, Brexit was never a big deal anyway…

I am expecting a summit real soon, with Boris and Trump all happy smiles as they roll out the most beautiful trade deal ever seen.  It will be yuuuge.

I just saw the full clip on the EU speech this morning and could not believe that Nazi von der Leyen told Farage to leave the premises without waving the Union Jack because “it was against the rules.”

That one needs to be highlighted on Fox; oh wait- it was. 🙂

  5. “O Lord our God arise
    Scatter her enemies
    And make them fall
    Confound their politics
    Frustrate their knavish tricks
On Thee our hopes we fix
    God save us all!”
