  1. And did those feet in ancient time
    Walk upon Englands mountains green:
And was the holy Lamb of God,
    On Englands pleasant pastures seen!

    And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
    And was Jerusalem builded here,
    Among these dark Satanic Mills?

Bring me my Bow of burning gold:
Bring me my arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!

I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand:
    Till we have built Jerusalem,
In Englands green & pleasant Land.

They did not cease their mental fight. Viva Britain and viva Blake!

  2. The second verse of “God Save the Queen” is also stirringly relevant today.

    O Lord our God arise,
    Scatter her enemies,
    And make them fall:
    Confound their politics,
    Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix:
    God save us all.

Here is what a confounded knave looks like.

    Guy Verhofstadt

  3. O frabjous day!  Calloo! Callay!
Now, if the Senate would just acquit Trump today, 1/31 would always be one of my  high Holy days!

A seldom-heard verse of God Save the Queen, updated to reflect Scotland’s recent evolution:

God bless the prince, I pray,
God bless the prince, I pray,
    Boris I mean;
    That Scotland we may see
    Freed from vile SNP,
    Both Labour and Corbie,
    Ever so, Amen.

  6. I’ve been trying to find a place to have a beer with Limeys around here, but it’s all Irish as far as pubs unless I go over to DC proper.

So I’ll grab a bottle (I hope) of some British sparkling wine across the street and toast to a live feed.  Hour and half to go!

There’s a Yorkshire brewery near me. I’m hoping they will have some kind of celebratory activity there. Heading over in an hour or so to be there at midnight, UK time.

I don’t know how authentic they are out there in California, but Brexit actually occurs, and the celebrations in Britain begin, at 23:00 UTC (which is currently local time in the UK), which happens to be midnight in Brussels, which is, presumably the last time John Bull will bow to smelly vegetables and their silly time zone from the Continent.

  9. Mike LaRoche:

    Robert A. McReynolds:
Now if only Texas would follow with Texit Day.

    That day will come.

”Texas shall be free and independent, or we shall perish in glorious combat.” – Juan Seguin, 1837

And you will be at the head of the marching band wearing a Tech jersey. 🙂

My only concern is that my state needs your state and then you, the historian, knows where that will lead us…

Accompanied by a squad of cheerleaders, of course! 😎
