criminal Barr

On Monday, the prosecution submitted a sentencing recommendation to the court in the case against Roger Stone.  They recommended seven to nine years in prison.

There was immediate push-back from court watchers.   As one example, Bonchie at RedState had this to say, in a blog post:

“Prosecutors want to give 9 years to a 67 year old man for a couple of process crimes.”

There was immediate push-back from the Department of Justice.

There was immediate push-back from President Trump.  He tweeted:

“Disgraceful!”

On Tuesday morning the Department of Justice rescinded the sentencing memorandum.

The revised recommendation doesn’t ask for a particular sentence but says the one that was recommended earlier “does not accurately reflect the Department of Justice’s position on what would be a reasonable sentence in this matter” and that the actual sentence should be “far less.”

It urges the judge in the case, Amy Berman Jackson, to consider Stone’s “advanced age, health, personal circumstances, and lack of criminal history in fashioning an appropriate sentence.”

“The defendant committed serious offenses and deserves a sentence of incarceration,” but based “on the facts known to the government, a sentence of between 87 to 108 months’ imprisonment, however, could be considered excessive and unwarranted under the circumstances. Ultimately, the government defers to the Court as to what specific sentence is appropriate under the facts and circumstances of this case,” the filing said.

The four prosecutors all quit.

Aaron Zelinsky resigned as a special assistant U.S. attorney in the Washington, D.C., office. It appears he continues to work for the Justice Department in his earlier capacity with the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Jonathan Kravis resigned as a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C.

Adam Jed and Michael Marando said they are withdrawing from the case.

There were immediate howls from Media and Democrats.

The hue and cry is that President Trump interfered with Justice on behalf of his pal Roger Stone.

All the usual suspects said all their usual garbage to all the Leftist “journalists” at Talking Snake Media.   Kamala Harris and Chuck Schumer called for “investigations!,” as did Nancy Pelosi and her gang of thugs in the House.

Of course they did.

Leftists have been attacking William Barr for months.   They make stuff up routinely.   He is high on their list; they would love to attempt a ‘high-tech lynching’ with him as the target.

Attorney General William Barr should be ashamed and embarrassed and resign as a result of this action directly interfering in the independent prosecution of Roger Stone,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said Wednesday.

Attorney General William Barr called their bluff.   He immediately agreed to appear at the Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions on the matter.

President Trump was in full counterattack mode.  “I have every right” said he, to express his views.

A DOJ flak said that the brain trust at Justice had already decided to reel back the egregious sentencing memo before the President weighed in.  The President’s tweet hit at 2:00 am on Tuesday morning, so that is entirely plausible.

Pop the popcorn.   The fun never stops.

  1. There is a special place in Hell for every single leftist politician who has done their best for the past three years to destroy President Trump and everyone who works for him.  Donald Trump is President and the entire Justice Department Works FOR HIM.  He is perfectly within his rights to fire every employee who started work before he was inaugurated, and he should embark on that mission right now.

  2. This is not surprising, about the jury, considering the placating of the trial. If memory serves it was held here in the Eastern District of VA which includes places like Arlington, Alexandria, and the rest of Northern Va. This area has become infested with government bots who espouse the Woke philosophy.

This trial, Flynn’s, and one of the Paul Manafort trials, were held in DC.

  4. I am deeply troubled by Judge Sullivan’s conduct in the Flynn case, Judge Jackson’s conduct in the Manafort and Stone cases, and the FISA judges’ conduct.

Would you like to go into more detail?

  6. Sullivan went on two irrelevant and legally erroneous judicial rants about Flynn committing treason and his attorney plagiarizing.

Jackson gave a clearly overbroad interpretation of the Special Counsel mandate and then snarkily chided Manafort’s counsel for not challenging the constitutionality.

The FISA judges were at least willfully ignorant of prosecutorial misconduct and are trying to bury it now.

Oh, Lordy, that woman should never have been seated on any jury, much less for a politically charged trial.  She is a Democrat apparatchik who used to be president of Memphis City Schools, which is a steaming hot mess.  She considered all criticism to be racism, and all problems in the schools due to racism, which of course only ever went one way.   I am sure she functioned as an extension of the prosecution.

    From this article:

The prosecutors asserted in the Monday filing that Stone’s conduct post-indictment — including violating the judge’s social media gag orders — merited a sentence much longer than the 15 to 21 months that the defense said was actually advisable under the federal sentencing guidelines.

So they recommended seven extra years in jail because of his tweets after their dawn raid to arrest him in front of the cameras.

    As President Trump said,

    “Disgraceful!”

  9. I love this. Barr and Trump have played the Deep State well. Now that the insane ‘all Democrats do is impeachment” image was fading as we get to see the Socialism Olympics that is the primaries, they are goaded in to reviving it full bore. Now we get the combined images of Socialists who impeach.

Meanwhile, facts emerge about the jury forewoman, the judge and such that either the judge gets scared or stupid. Dismissal by her or commutation by POTUS which allows appeals to go forward.

It is as if they cannot help themselves but to dance when he tweets.

Barr and Trump are now each other’s insurance policy against impeachment.

Welcome to the club! I have been arguing with one of my Marine friends, a lawyer in DC (who is Democrat) about “robe” abuse – of law, of liberty, of their rightful place in government and society. SCOTUS in particular in the last 100 years has done perhaps irreparable damage to the constitution. They have flagrantly disregarded the 9th amendment, given little power to the 10th,  and totally ignored the 1st wording. So nice to see our government taking away our liberty – with the help of the robes.

William Barr gave an interview to ABC News. First, he should never speak with them.

It appears he granted the exclusive interview to reporter Pierre Thomas because they have known each other for years.
