criminal Barr

On Monday, the prosecution submitted a sentencing recommendation to the court in the case against Roger Stone.  They recommended seven to nine years in prison.

There was immediate push-back from court watchers.   As one example, Bonchie at RedState had this to say, in a blog post:

“Prosecutors want to give 9 years to a 67 year old man for a couple of process crimes.”

There was immediate push-back from the Department of Justice.

There was immediate push-back from President Trump.  He tweeted:

“Disgraceful!”

On Tuesday morning the Department of Justice rescinded the sentencing memorandum.

The revised recommendation doesn’t ask for a particular sentence but says the one that was recommended earlier “does not accurately reflect the Department of Justice’s position on what would be a reasonable sentence in this matter” and that the actual sentence should be “far less.”

It urges the judge in the case, Amy Berman Jackson, to consider Stone’s “advanced age, health, personal circumstances, and lack of criminal history in fashioning an appropriate sentence.”

“The defendant committed serious offenses and deserves a sentence of incarceration,” but based “on the facts known to the government, a sentence of between 87 to 108 months’ imprisonment, however, could be considered excessive and unwarranted under the circumstances. Ultimately, the government defers to the Court as to what specific sentence is appropriate under the facts and circumstances of this case,” the filing said.

The four prosecutors all quit.

Aaron Zelinsky resigned as a special assistant U.S. attorney in the Washington, D.C., office. It appears he continues to work for the Justice Department in his earlier capacity with the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Jonathan Kravis resigned as a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C.

Adam Jed and Michael Marando said they are withdrawing from the case.

There were immediate howls from Media and Democrats.

The hue and cry is that President Trump interfered with Justice on behalf of his pal Roger Stone.

All the usual suspects said all their usual garbage to all the Leftist “journalists” at Talking Snake Media.   Kamala Harris and Chuck Schumer called for “investigations!,” as did Nancy Pelosi and her gang of thugs in the House.

Of course they did.

Leftists have been attacking William Barr for months.   They make stuff up routinely.   He is high on their list; they would love to attempt a ‘high-tech lynching’ with him as the target.

Attorney General William Barr should be ashamed and embarrassed and resign as a result of this action directly interfering in the independent prosecution of Roger Stone,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said Wednesday.

Attorney General William Barr called their bluff.   He immediately agreed to appear at the Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions on the matter.

President Trump was in full counterattack mode.  “I have every right” said he, to express his views.

A DOJ flak said that the brain trust at Justice had already decided to reel back the egregious sentencing memo before the President weighed in.  The President’s tweet hit at 2:00 am on Tuesday morning, so that is entirely plausible.

Pop the popcorn.   The fun never stops.

A.G. William Barr gave an interview to ABC News.

First, he should never speak with them.   Enemy of the People.

Second, he criticized President Trump for tweeting about DOJ matters.   He is right, but he should never say that in the hearing of journalists.

MJ, I am of the opinion this was to put separation between Trump and Barr for political purposes.

Trump tweeted after the fact, that, he had no problem with what Barr had said.

I was holding my breath, but it appears things are not just OK, but better than ever.

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said Trump “wasn’t bothered” by Barr’s remarks, even as she defended the president’s social media use.

“The president wasn’t bothered by the comments at all and he has the right, just like any American citizen, to publicly offer his opinions,” Grisham said. “President Trump uses social media very effectively to fight for the American people against injustices in our country, including the fake news.  The President has full faith and confidence in Attorney General Barr to do his job and uphold the law.”

Barr and Trump are united in their belief that Trump and his allies have been unfairly targeted, Fox News is told. Republicans have long pointed to the fact that prominent anti-Trump figures, including former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, have avoided prosecution even though they have admitted to leaking and lying to federal investigators.

I get the feeling that Trump is the bad cop and Barr is the good cop and neither the Dems nor the “journalists” can figure out they are being played.

  3. Pencilvania was not the only person to call the four prosecutors “drama queens.”

    https://spectator.org/flight-of-the-drama-queens/

“Put another way, this whole stunt is nothing more than a choreographed two-act political melodrama in which the Team Mueller holdovers filed their overhyped, unauthorized sentencing memorandum and then followed up with a grand jeté exit stage left to a shower of bouquets and bravos from an adoring Democrat and mainstream media audience.”
