FBI Gave Secrets to Steele

It has been clear to me for some time that the FBI is corrupt. How corrupt is still open for debate, but there has been no doubt in my mind about it, at the highest levels. This is, of course, nothing new. Under Hoover, it was as corrupt as such things can be. Still, we had hoped, in 2016 that was behind us. Not so.

This at Real Clear Investigations is scary. Any American should be horrified, but of course, the left will not be, and Never Trumpers won’t be, because let’s face it, there is nothing that will make either one of those groups change their mind. The Never Trumpers who can be won over have been (welcome all).

A month before the 2016 presidential election, the FBI met Christopher Steele in Rome and apparently unlawfully shared with the foreign opposition researcher some of the bureau’s most closely held secrets, according to unpublicized disclosures in the recent Justice Department Inspector General report on abuses of federal surveillance powers.

That is the opening paragraph. While DOJ lawyers want to put people away for a 7 years for process crimes, the FBI is breaking the law to help on candidate go after another in a presidential election.

The FBI’s decision to share classified information with a partisan operative and private foreign citizen is all the more curious because the team investigating figures associated with the presidential campaign of Donald Trump made extensive efforts to keep the very fact of Crossfire Hurricane a secret from their own colleagues at the bureau.

I have been in the behavioral health business for almost 30 years. I can tell you, when people are hiding secrets from their friends, they are doing something wrong. It is clear the people doing this knew it was wrong when they were doing it.

The closing paragraphs are the strongest

To appreciate the magnitude of the FBI’s breach of the rules governing classified materials, consider how the bureau’s former Director James Comey and former General Counsel James Baker have used classification to limit what Michael Horowitz was able to ask them. Comey and Baker “chose not to request that their security clearances be reinstated for their OIG interviews,” the Inspector General writes. “Therefore, we were unable to provide classified information or documents to them during their interviews to develop their testimony, or to assist their recollections of relevant events.”

The idea that the FBI is gratuitously sharing classified information with a foreign informant is rather extraordinary, says lawyer Bigley. “If one of my clients did this, they would be stripped of their security clearance, out of a job, and probably facing indictment.”

If nothing ever comes from this, we can be sure America is a banana republic now. The power of the DOJ is only to be used against conservatives and enemies of the deep state. The rules are only to advance their agenda. The laws are only to attack their enemies.

I expect, this information will be ignored across the board.

  1. Federal America today is worse than a banana republic, since most people actually believe that the justice department’s (sic)(it no longer deserves capitalization) is actually in the business of pursuing justice (except in the rare cases when it does not do progressive bidding). The fact is that the feds are so corrupt – while still protected by a patina of yesterday’s propriety – they have achieved Lavrentii Berea’s reality: “you bring me the man, I will find you the crime.” No ordinary American, and maybe even the most wealthy if they run afoul, politically, of someone in power at the wrong place at the wrong time, can survive a federal investigation. Any ordinary American is ruined financially by merely mounting a defense. Worse, virtually none can any longer live without committing crimes, since most of middle-class existence has been criminalized (The Declaration of Independence was at once accurate and prescient: ..”multitude of new officers… harass our people… eating out their substance…”).

Harvey Silverglate has documented our present ominous plight in Three Felonies a Day – the average number committed by the average American by merely living modern life as everyone else. This, again, more resembles life under Stalin – now spoken of approvingly by Bernie’s minions.

  2. TheFederalist.com also has a post that links to this RealClearInvestigations report.   From further down in the report:

The FBI had every reason to expect Steele to share information with Glenn Simpson, whose client was the Clinton campaign. Steele claims to have been “candid” with [FBI Agent Michael] Gaeta about who was writing the checks for his Trump-Russia research. Steele took notes of the July 5 meeting he had with the “handling agent.” According to the Horowitz report, those notes state that Steele told Gaeta “Democratic Party associates” were funding his Fusion GPS work, that the “ultimate client” was the Clinton campaign, and that “the candidate,” as the IG report puts it, “was aware of Steele’s reporting.”

But by the fall, the Crossfire Hurricane team was so eager to lock in access to Steele’s ongoing “reporting” that they were willing to offer the former spy inducements. Steele said the FBI didn’t want him to share his election intelligence with other U.S. government agencies or with any of his private clients except for Fusion GPS. Gaeta said it was a reasonable request given that Steele “was now being offered compensation to go forward from the United States government” — compensation such as the $15,000 he had been told he would be paid for attending the meeting in Rome.

More significantly, Steele received highly classified information.

They go on to note that Glen Simpson of Fusion GPS wrote in his book that he got a complete briefing on that Rome meeting from Steele.

So the Crossfire Hurricane team did not want anyone else at the FBI or DOJ to know what they were working on, but were OK with completely sharing everything with Christopher Steele and, through Steele, to Glenn Simpson, Fusion GPS, the DNC and Team Hillary.

  3. At some point it must be recognized that this arrangement of ours is no longer worth maintaining. Some of you still believe there is something that can salvaged here and that the current situation is just an aberration. Recognize this: there is no salvaging this. The United States as has been conceptualized in your minds is dead and there is no resurrection in this story. You must choose between empire and self government because you better believe the next time the DNC takes control, there will be no losing to the GOP again.

Your ideology has been criminalized. Your. Political party has been criminalized. Your lifestyle has been criminalized.

Yeah and it’s taken nearly 250 years for rest of you to catch up.

You would have more success railing against the cruel, cruel loss of fur and fangs.  Stupid puny humans.  Somebody ought to set that right.
