TOTD 2020-3-27: Taking the Temperature

This will be a short post. I have a couple of appointments this weekend. To calm fears they want to know my temperature for a few days.

I grew up in the States and the old thermometers had mercury in them and you stuck them under your tongue. In Japan they use digital thermometers but you don’t stick it under your tongue. It is placed in another warm place but(I spelled that right) not where you think. It is placed under your arm. The temperature is lower by a degree or so.

Have you ever used the underarm method? Do you a nonstandard way to take your temp?

  1. I have not but they did that for Isaac when he was born if I recall correctly. Our thermometers go in our ear for temperatures. I hated the old ones you mentioned. They were very uncomfortable for me when I was a kid. Hope all is well with you Dime.

What if you take your temperature in your ear and the thermometer falls through or gets lost on there. 🙂

Then I would think you would be cured, no?

    What is temporal digital?

    O tempora, o mores!

It’s a forehead thermometer, often infrared, sometimes contact. This is the oldest way to check for fever, if the digital part is more broadly interpreted. Mothers have been checking their kids for fevers by putting fingers on foreheads forever. The modern temporal digital thermometers aren’t much more accurate.
