TOTD 2020-3-29: A Tale of Two Cities

I was reminded this morning of this quote from Charles Dickens.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

Do you feel similar?

  1. This is the craziest crisis I have been in because I go to either extreme of  “It’s not that bad.” and “This might be the worst thing to hit the Western World.”

  2. No, it’s not normal times, nor a new normal, nor a season for despair or feelings of powerlessness. It is rather a season for optimism and joyful anticipation for two solid reasons: our Saviour rises soon, and the very last available salvo from the failed Resistance will be a final resounding dud, that is their attempt to weaponize this wimpy virus. I’m taking you off suicide watch since this post is half positive and I don’t hear garments rending or the wailing of self flagellation, Hyp.

Life is wonderful for me, Trin.

  5. Trin, I love Kindle for I can get almost any book at a fair price. Before with regular books the selection was poor and the prices were high.

Both. I couldn’t resist the low prices on the Fire tablets. They are great for web surfing.

Did you call me, M’sieur?  Are you mocking me?
During  the Black Plague there was a sect of Flagellants..did I mention them before?  Their time has come again.  One of our Pa legislators introduced a resolution to make March 30 a “Day of Atonement” because obviously we have really pissed off  The Creator.  I have plenty of ashes..now where’d I put the sackcloth..?  My daughter, studying the Establishment Clause, was livid.  I said, relax sugar, it’s just what the Supreme Court has called “ mere ceremonial Deism”.

  9. I denounce Comrade Trin as a traitor to the revolution! I recommend …

“… the best cure for headache, it infallibly prevented hair from turning gray, it imparted a peculiar delicacy to the complexion, it was the National Razor which shaved close …”

Yup. This might be terrible in many ways. But I am hanging out right now in the pool and the hammock, enjoying the lovely day. Crazy.
