Crayola almost got it right…

Crayola releases ‘colors of the world’ crayons representing more than 40 skin tones

The iconic art supply company has created a palette of 24 global shades for its new “Colors of the World” box, which is designed to illustrate more than 40 skin tones.

Because Crayola believes that every child should be able to “creatively and accurately color themselves into the world they see around them,” the brand hopes the new line can help cultivate a more inclusive world for kids of all ages, races, cultures and ethnicities.

The announcement at the Crayola website.

You may ask that since this was long overdue, and it is a great step for our children and grandchildren, what is it that makes me think that they almost got it right.

They did not have “old sweat sock” in their collection of skin colors….

Wait a minute!  Where’s the grey one?

  2. Beige.  Touching a hot stove uncoupled from being burned is not an act of kindness.  It is scar tissue.

What is more racist than separating people by skin color?  We must separate people by caste, as has been so politically successful in India.  Confiscate from people who create, gorge people who consume, and award management a fat cut for being wise philosopher-kings.

  3. They’ve had the range-of-skin-colors crayons for a while. I don’t know if any of them approximate actual skin colors. The “flesh” color in a 1960 box of crayons sure didn’t match any skin anywhere.

It’s news to me and at least this time they did incorporate some help from a makeup expert. I think generally the kids will get a kick out of it. As for racist, I think it’s more like “Personalization”  as nothing derogatory is implied, just more of a thing for the kiddies. Now the grey, well then that’s two things they missed, old sweat socks and aliens.

  5. The only problem I see with this for Crayola is, if a parent buys the box of 24 crayons basically so their child can use the one or two that really represent their complexion, the child will run out of that one quickly and then the parent has to buy a whole new box of 24 — oh wait. That’s not a problem for Crayola.

They gotta have “special order” of individual colors…

  8. “People can identify with themselves in a box of 24 crayons.”

How very superficial! Apparently, people are reduced to their skin color.

Oh for crying out loud doc, sometimes I wonder about you, it’s for the KIDS!

If you want to buy a box, feel free, but I doubt you will get the same thrill some little ones will get finding their skin color.

Cripes…. me thinks you are acting like the proverbial TROLL.
