  1. One possibility is that attempting to lower the gear at too high a speed triggered an alert that then prevented subsequent alerts such as “too low gear”, “glidescope” and “too low terrain”.

    The last callouts were several repeats of some two-syllable mystery term. Those sounded like wee-tan ! wee-tan!

The Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan has released a document: “Violation: Non-Compliance of ATC Instructions by PIC [pilot in command—JW] PIA8303” which states that air traffic control repeatedly warned the pilot in command that he was high and hot and to discontinue approach, but these instructions were disregarded.

    Noteworthy is that the report states:

    According to the FDR and CVR recordings several warnings and alerts such as over-speed, landing gear not down and ground proximity alerts were disregarded.

    That does not clearly state what the forms of the warnings/alerts were. For example, were they the “Glide slope”, “Too low gear”, and “Too low terrain” recorded alerts  we expected?

    What a flabbergasting display of incompetence.  If the non-flying pilot is responsible for the landing gear, it appears there was no communication between the pilot in command and pilot monitoring of the intent to land or go around.  And further, even if the undercarriage had been down, they touched down so far down the runway and were so over-speed, they probably couldn’t have stopped before the end of the runway.
