Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture: “Whiteness”

The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture , a taxpayer-funded Federal institution which opened in September, 2016 and funded in part by million dollar gifts from Microsoft and Google, has published a document on their Web site, “Whiteness”, which contains the following infographic, which I have broken up into two parts to fit better here.  Here is the first page, which continues after the break.

Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture: “Whiteness” 1/2

Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture: “Whiteness” 2/2

This is the most amazing, and dismaying, example of taxpayer-funded racism I’ve seen since the legendary 2006 Seattle Public Schools “Definitions of Racism” which was memory-holed, but which I was fortunate enough to save while it was still up and archive on my Fourmilab site.

Now, here’s the thing.  These protesters, vandals, bien-pensant academics, celebrities, and their “terrified enablers” (as Victor Davis Hanson calls them) in corporations, government, and the media, are telling us we must “confront whiteness” and extirpate its toxic beliefs from the culture in order to establish a society which values diversity and equality.  Well, if that’s the case, then I suppose it’s handy to have a checklist of just what “whiteness” amounts to.

Now imagine living in a society where all of these characteristics of “whiteness” have been dispensed with.  What’s that going to look like?

If you are a U.S. taxpayer, you paid for this.

Just in case something should happen to this page on the museum’s site, I have archived it locally.

  1. One way to interpret the infographic is whiteness =  winners. By implication, a person might reasonably conclude that non-whiteness = losers. That’s probably not the message they were going for but it works for me.

  2. Now if I am hiring for my business I would definitely want someone who is . . .

    • Self reliant
    • Independent
    • Objective and Rational
    • Hardworking
    • Respectful
    • Action Oriented
    • Aggressive
    • Well spoken
    • Not overly emotional

So much for diversity. These white people seem to be the way to go.

Seriously though, if a white person put out this same chart, word for word, it would be deemed racists. “What are you saying only white people work hard or care about their families?”

One person who commented on a post of this on Twitter remarked, “Shhh—nobody tell the Americans of Chinese, Indian, Iranian, Korean or Filipino origin that they are actually white, according to this chart.”  (Well, Iranians and many Indians are white, if you go by the ethnographic definition of “Aryan”.)

  4. Woman’s beauty based on blonde, thin — “Barbie”

We live and learn;  so all those old European artists whose paintings of delightfully plump ladies hang in the Louvre cannot have been “White”?

To be serious, I cancelled my membership in the Smithsonian a long time ago, over the “Enola Gay” misrepresentation.  This kind of stupidity from the once-great Smithsonian is not new.  Lefties really do have the “King Midas in Reverse” syndrome — everything they touch turns to dust.

When whites do better than blacks on standardized tests it is because the test is racist, but when Asians do better than whites on the same test the difference is no longer racism? See, that kind of logic never made sense to me but now I know it is because my whiteness makes me focus too much on the scientific method and not enough on victimhood.

  6. The fact is that the traits so despised in the opinion of the museum are those which have worked in creating wealth and ease from which all have benefited. It appears we are about to embark on an yet another experiment to demonstrate that Marxism – regardless of the melanin content of the skin of its practitioners – has always failed to elevate anyone but its ruling elite. It will produce equality, however – of poverty, resentment and misery. Good luck figuring out again what works, after all the books have been burned and the web pages deleted.

  7. Why am I not the least offended by the Smithsonian’s definition of “whiteness.”

It’s true and I’m proud that it’s true.

  8. I want to see the infographic for Blackness, Yellowness, or Redness. It is clever though because it is a way to disregard long held beliefs as specific to light shades of skin. “You are saying that because you are white.”

Things are so crazy they are beyond parody.

  9. James Smithson, a chemist who used the scientific method, published 27 scientific papers through hard work, and spoke the King’s English, most likely identified as white before he bequeathed his fortune to start this ingrate of an institution.

This is begging for a parody. Paging John Derbyshire…

Here, as a palate (or cerebral cortex) cleanser, is John Derbyshire’s April, 2012 “The Talk, Nonblack Version”, which precipitated his defenestration from the pages of National Review, even though it was not published there.

The furor and subsequent defenestration of Derb turned me into a faithful reader and supporter of his work. Consummate gentleman that he is, Derb always sends hand-written thank-you notes in reply.

Derb is the epitome of gentleman. I once had an email exchange with him on various topics a little over a decade ago. He was so nice and very forthcoming with his thoughts on things. His firing from Neutered Review was my walking away moment really.

  12. Damn, we are good!   It’s no wonder we’re presently  kinda at the top of the heap.
And,  I mean: it was white people’s turn for supremacy, wasn’t it? Look at the great civilizations  of Egypt, the Indus Valley, The Ming and Chang and Tang, etc, dynasties, the Mayans and Aztecs, the Ottomans…( oh and speaking of the Turks this chart answers my question: yes, being a Muslim does let you off being white!).  My point is: why shouldn’t white people have their time of ascendancy? Everybody else has.
Also this chart was very reassuring.  Can you call a mental process “thinking” if it isn’t  “rational” and “linear”, meaning each thought bears some relation to the previous one?  That kinda mentation   would be more like a dream, or a delusion, wouldn’t it?   So much for the competition.

Finally: “the ‘King’s English’ “?    What, King George III?    I think his reign was the last time any white people in the US used this expression.

And one more thing: Y’know, there are a lot  of white people in the world. Ever been to Eastern Europe?  Ukraine?  Millions of young very white people pushing baby carriages.  I sure hope they share the  cultural traits of US whites!

  13. Flattering as this chart is, though, we aren’t living up to it, I’m sorry to say.  I see a lotta white skin on these Antifa maniacs.  Nah.  Black Smithsonian has been too charitable about us.

  14. I feel sorry for people who would think these things. It is the recipe for failure. Some things are like the laws of nature. If you go against them you always lose. It reminds me of people who want to feel positive about their bodies when they need to lose about a third or half their weight. It hurts them because they are lies.
I really wish George Orwell could have lived to see this day or G K Chesterton.

Well, it doesn’t apply to everyone. All ethnic groups have their idiots.

  17. My BMD had a great idea after perusing this: start a movement to defund public education.
Seriously: white people, if this chart  is accurate, don’t need it.  We can teach our own  kids to read and add and speak grammatically and think rationally, or we can independently hire someone to do it.
And black  people, judging by this chart, do not want these accomplishments for their children; to them, aspiring to these goals means their young are being corrupted by “whiteness”.   Forget about abolishing the Fed Dep’t of Education: abolish education itself!
This has been done before: the English occupiers forbade Irish children from being educated.  Doughty priests, themselves virtually outlawed, kept the flame of literacy alive in the clandestine “hedge schools”.

Hey!  What if we say: OMG you guys are right!  We’re just destroying your culture by making education mandatory for black kids!  From now on, black kids are exempt from compulsory education.  In fact, for your own good, we forbid them from entering any school where white kids are enrolled.
Would that maybe result in an indigenous black American movement demanding  education?   Maybe even…integration?
    Havent we been here before?
