The Dream of the 90’s really is alive in Portland

Remember this video from the pilot episode of the show Portlandia

Well it is true the dream of the 90’s really is alive in Portland cause we all know how the 90’s ended.  If you don’t here is a little video to refresh your memory (it is NSFW)

(Side note: some friends of mine wanted me to go to this hot mess of a concert. Good thing i hate camping or I may have had an up close and personal experience at this event)

  1. We remembered Portlandia just recently & watched this & a few other episodes, & concluded you can understand a lot about the present there by watching this show.

  2. Interesting – ‘individualist’ conformity to nihilism. What happens when the trust funds – created by their parents entire lives of diligent work and savings – run out?

They will blame their parents of course. Next question.

  4. The imagery toward the end of the video with the rocked out version of the Star Spangled Banner playing as the miscreants leave the seen completely strewn with trash and rubbish is a great image. Here they are, toting out their own personal belongings after having feasted on the hedonistic rituals of the weekend while the area is turned into a garbage dump for someone else to clean up. They march in their hippi-fied columns back to their transports all the while the National Anthem plays. It is the new mentality of the modern American: I got what I came for and who gives a damn about the mess. And so you look around you in 2020, where this has been extrapolated out to the rest of the country over the course of 20 years. It isn’t just Woodstock. It is Portland, New York City, Chicago, Minneapolis, etc. They are getting theirs, and they don’t give a damn who has to clean it up or even it ever gets cleaned up. Oh say can you see….the debauchery.

People who like to claim that people like me, with my desires of separation and dissolution of Union, are trying to destroy this country, I would like to point out to you that your country–whatever you thought it was–was destroyed long before I ever knew the names Mises, Rothbard, and Woods. You have decided to tether the Titanic to your foot in an attempt to swim up to the surface. Keep kicking. Sooner or later you will reach the bottom.

Great point. There was a LOT of debauchery in the 90’s. Like I said before go watch the movie Kids to get an idea of what I’m talking about. We were taught how to correctly put condoms on in school. It wasn’t “I know you are hormonal and want to have sex, but you are way too young and these are the both the physical and emotional consequences to having sex too young”. Instead we got “Since you are teenagers and have no self control, AT ALL and will end up having sex anyway, so, here is a condom. It will 100% prevent you from getting AIDS or pregnant”. Which isn’t true but that is what they told us. Also the drugs. Extacy was the drug of the decade, along with weed. The moral decay is what is going on here. So many of these Antifa, and BLM protesters are Larping. I think, they think this is a game. Which is why they freak out when the Feds come and get them. They don’t realize there are consequences to their actions.

I’m not a Libertarian or anarchist or anything, but I agree with what you are saying here. The federal government has way too much control and has created this. There has been way too much centralization. The Catholic principle of subsidiarity, I think is the best one. Subsidiarity is the principle in social organization holding that functions which are performed effectively by subordinate or local organizations belong more properly to them than to a dominant central organization. Which is what the US was before the Federal government started to take more and more control over things. So the dissolution of the Union itself may not be necessary but we need to get back to first principles. Strip away the last 100 years of garbage policies that have gotten us into this mess.

  7. Since I am in a Bah!  Humbug! mood, I have to say that “subsidiarity” is another one of those words which will expose the user to the risk of the death penalty after the People of the World elect me king.

The execrable European Union loves “subsidiarity”.  It means that all power belongs to them in the center;  they may from time to time allow the peons on the periphery to make their own mistakes, but all delegation from the center to the peons is revocable at the whim of the center.

What we want is “federalism” — at least as initially conceived.  All power resides in the people, and We the People may choose to delegate some power & decision-making authority upwards to a level of government in the interests of efficiency.  But all those upward delegations of authority are revocable by us citizens.

Federalism was a great idea.  Such a shame that the politicians and lawyers have gutted it.
