This Week’s Book Review – SAC Time

Looking for a good read? Here is a recommendation. I have an unusual approach to reviewing books. I review books I feel merit a review. Each review is an opportunity to recommend a book. If I do not think a book is worth reading, I find another book to review. You do not have to agree with everything every author has written (I do not), but the fiction I review is entertaining (and often thought-provoking) and the non-fiction contain ideas worth reading.... Leveraging the FBI against a right-wing couple

One anonymous tip from a Leftist cost this couple more than four years and many thousands of dollars and their status is still in limbo.

The Antifa activist who submitted the fake tip to the FBI abt me, delaying my visa by years, didn’t just cause heartache by separating my wife & I by 1000s of miles.

That person stopped us from being able to have a family. Four years now. And (biologically) running out of time.

— Jack

I have questions.

Lock of the I Wish

Notice the “Vinus Bridge” on the sign. This happens in Japan all the time. The maker of the sign transliterates because they don’t know the English word is “Venus”.
Venus Bridge is a lover’s lookout. Couples go their and some put a lock there.

Here is a closer look.

Let’s look at one. They often have writing.

“I love you. Always be near me. In the future I will also support you.”

Time to see the “bridge”.

Semi Loud

The word for cicadas in Japanese is semi.  They have been chirping or is it singing lately. I will put up a picture of the bug behind a spoiler so some people won’t get creeped out. For others who just want to hear the semi symphony here is a video.

No Liberty in Texas

As more than 1,400 YAL students and 100 elected officials prepared to gather in Dallas on Monday for YAL’s premier event, the organization received word that the city had issued a “force majeure” order canceling it “to limit the spread of COVID-19.” This happened a mere three days before the event was scheduled to kick off — and in spite of several months of caffeinated workdays registering attendees, booking flights, and coordinating with investors. YAL even had its staging, banners, and audio/video equipment waiting in the parking lot of the venue.

Make no mistake: This was never about safety. With tyrants, it never is.... [Read More]

Health or Control?

If you return to Washington DC after “non-essential” travel to certain states you must self-quarantine for 14 days. If you travel to the same place on “essential” business then you are not under the same restrictions. Does that mean the virus will be more or less deadly based on why you decided to travel? Probably not, but it does mean that going to Georgia for a Democrat’s funeral is definitely an “essential” activity.

In Nevada, churches cannot have more than 50 people in them at a time, regardless of how large the church is. Casinos, on the other hand, are allowed to have up to 50% capacity. So, if your church can seat 1,000 you can only have 50 people but if your casino fits 1,000 people you can have up to 500 gamblers at a time. Again, does the virus know if you are a worshipper or a degenerate gambler? No, it does not. Casinos pay more taxes, but we are still going with the “public health” argument for the lockdowns, right?... [Read More]

Knowledge Base: Posting Videos Anybody Can View

Square peg, round holeIf you’ve recorded a video and wish to include it in a post or comment on the site, if you proceed in the most straightforward way, it’s essentially certain only some people will be able to view it.  This is due to the Balkanisation of video formats, which  more than two decades after video on the Web became commonplace, remain a swamp of proprietary formats, patent lock-ins and -outs, royalty claims, and attempts by browser vendors to lock in users to their associated mobile devices.

It is possible to navigate this minefield and post videos (almost) everybody can view, but it’s neither easy nor straightforward.  This note is written as much as anything as a memo to file so I don’t have to summon the information every time I need to fix a posted video, but if you’re willing to install the required tools and carefully follow the instructions, you can make it work.... Facebook Opens today at 248 and Closes at 266

Thank goodness I had the faith in MZ after the Salem witch hunt he underwent this past week in the swamp by the very people who were more than happy to take his money over the years.

Guess what people? Nobody cares about his politics. I made $12k today and I can only wish he could know what a fiscal conservative am I.... [Read More]

Gone Fishin’

Would you have liked to go fly-fishing in the Adirondacks with Winslow Homer? For sure I would, despite total lack of interest in fishing. I would just loll around watching the action, like the implied action in this painting; the colors; the sparkly light; the beautiful lines of the canoe. The bright white hat does imply blackfly season, though. Would he have been so foolish as to go up there during blackfly season? Maybe it was just somebody’s favorite hat.... [Read More]
