Sick Un(to/til) Death

Well over 90% of sexually active  adults have,  or at sometime had, human papilloma virus (HPV) infection. It’s often minimally or non- symptomatic.  It often clears up in its own, but it is one of those viruses like herpes which  never leaves the body once you’ve hosted it.

Some of those women also get cervical cancer.  Some of those men get throat cancer.  Most do not, or the death rates of these cancers would be astronomically high.

What if every person who dies in US gets posthumously tested for HPV, and if they test  positive, which is very likely, HPV Is reported as the cause of death?

(Great news if you own stock in Merck, maker of Gardasil , a painful two stage injection which, of course, doesn’t protect against all  strains of HPV….)

Yes, and if you posted this on Facebook you would be censored for pointing out that we cannot trust the death statistics.

Okay now this is interesting.  First, I will post it on Facebook, or rather I will post the gist of it.  I opened a new account a few weeks ago, using a totally fictional name, and it hasn’t been very satisfactory because Altho Facebook has helpfully located every single person who ever interacted on my non-anonymous old account, and suggested I “friend” them, what would b the point: they dont know who Is behind my pseudonym, and if the found out, then it wouldn’t be anonymous  any more an I couldn’t say just what I please! (Or rather, I COULD, but it would result in my losing any prog friends I have left…probably none, actually, but then there’s relatives…)

But: I also get a lot of friend requests,  and more puzzlingly, friend suggestions from/ about people I have never heard of.  So here’s an idee: whyn’t I “friend” those strangers?  It will result in my message being spread among people OTHER than those who already know me and to whom I’ve already shot off my mouth at length and volume!  I’m thinkin’ mebbe I will.  Is there any reason NOT to?

A couple of reasons come to mind.

First, consider whether you really want to invest much time in this charade.

Second, consider that you cannot trust Facebook to preserve anonymity, and that Facebook knows that your pseudonymous account is you.

Third, consider the random nature of the “suggestions” you are getting from Facebook algorithms, and whether or not you would be able to persuade even one random Facebook acquaintance.

However, if you give it a try, we will be very interested in your experience and your findings.

    Good luck.

  3. Hyp to carry out this charade you need to mask your IP address. That is how FB discovered your fake account is really you and started suggesting you friend those from your old account. So you need to mask your IP—at least. I suspect FB has sophisticated tools to discover where you are coming from so it might take investing a lot of time and resources to completely mask who you are.

-+well, I probably do, I mean are t ALL of our online personae sump’n of a “charade“?

—yes but why do I care about that if the only people who see my stuff are strangers? But I notice that  my mobile # is up there…still it would be a nice change from the constant GOP begging I get now.

    -++yeah, I looked again at these people’s pictures.  Uhhhhh…still, a vote is a vote!

..sophisticated? …resources…?  I don’t got ‘em, not in the cyber world, as everybody who knows me here must realize.  What’s the worst that can happen to me?(  No that’s not rhetorical, I’m humbly asking, if you know.)

  6. This brings back a conversation I had with my ob/gyn (aka Opie Taylor) 5 years ago who is the kindest, most fearlessly open person I know. He is also extremely religious and he looked me right in the eye when he told me he forced his teen-age daughter to get the HPV shot.

When I expressed some surprise knowing his family background, he responded, “Enough already with what should  be, I worry about what could be. “

    Good dad. Good doctor.

I went to great lengths to get it for my daughter, too, because it was “recommended”..My BMD yielded to the advice of the pediatrician, with whom she’d been getting her regular  infancy exams. Well..no harm done, that we could see.  But after researching  HPV, its prevalence, its relative harmlessness,
    I resent it.

  8. Just an update: I did post  this same idea-on my Facebook page.  So far, nuthin’.   I mean, that nobody has Liked it is due to the fact that nobody knows who “I”am, given my pseudonym, as I wrote before    ( Altho there is a clue if you know anything about me…)   But I mean:  Facebook hasnt hassled my opinion, either.  So far.

MZ is in court right now being grilled by the pols who were all too happy to take his generous donations in the past. Wonder how that’s going to work out in Nov?

At least I’m no hypocrite- I openly relish making money with his company and could give a ratburger’s ass what his political views are even if he stifles opposition. I buy products not ideologies.
