  1. A couple of details: Crew Dragon jettisons its “trunk” service module before the re-entry burn, which reduces the delta-v needed to de-orbit.  Consequently, the trunk is left in orbit, and will naturally decay and burn up in a year or so after the crew capsule returns.

    Dragon completely loses communications during the black-out period due to plasma surrounding the capsule.  This was not the case for the Space Shuttle, which maintained communications through the TDRSS satellites because its antennas on the upper fuselage were not blocked by plasma diverted around the belly.
