Life Hack from My Subconscious

Last night, I dreamed that I hit someone’s old truck—but then I took a second look, and wasn’t so sure it happened. So my solution was to get the owner, show him his truck, and say, “Do you notice anything different about your bumper?” Remember this next time you run into someone’s vehicle in the parking lot and are not sure what to do.

  1. THAT WAS MY TRUCK! You demolished it, it was a classic, a 1996, over 20 years old! Now when you hit it it all fell apart into a pile of rust!

  2. Years ago I once had a dream that I was a geneticist who bred a tomcat that during mating season, instead of yowling, would sing crooner ballads like “Blue Spanish Eyes.”

Next time call an Uber, Sawatdeeka.

  4. In the dream, Sawatdeeka, did you actually do this?  Or did the dream end with the feeling of satisfaction that you had come up with a solution?  Do you remember?
I read that when we dream we don’t form long-term memories.  If we “tell“  the dream when we wake, then we can form a memory of the waking recap.  But if we don’t rehearse it to ourselves immediately on waking It’s gone.

Here is my most treasured dream : I dreamed about a friend who had died and of course I said, “Where have you been? !?”(I always say that in such dreams—do you?)  This was the one and only time I ever got an answer:  he said, “Thanksgiving”.  I heard it as both a noun and a verb, a state of being, a place.  I know I came up with it all in my own. I bestowed this moment of balm on me!  As I write it, I see my friend again; I’ve told it many times, probably even here, and the memory of him from this dream is as vivid as my waking memories.

If I dreamed that I hit someone’s truck, I would rewind my dream and make it the other guy’s fault. (:

Some people can do that: they  consciously understand even within the dream that they themselves are in control.  I think it’s kinda rare. ( I’m not surprised that you  can do it, Phil! )

  7. Everything is surveilled and recorded.  “Hit and run” by a soft target- you.  You are revenue meat.

All American laws are Beria-equitable applied to the guilty.

Uncle Al, what does this have to do with a thread about a dream from a really nice person? Try to keep on topic. If the post is lighthearted write a lighthearted comment, please.

    Sawatdeeka, get a dashcam.

    Do you have one, Bubba?

Yes.  I have a button I can reach near my rear-view mirror that lets me save the previous five minutes.  Otherwise it overwrites its memory beginning each day at midnight.  I have only saved two 5-minute clips.  One was a motorcyclist speeding through traffic between the lanes of cars on a seven-lane arterial street.  (He was showing off a high level of skill and a low level of judgement.)  The other clip was a crash where the guy in front of me ran into the guy in front of him.  (Fortunately there was no real damage; just a bump.  The Ford pickup that had been hit from behind looked at his bumper and said “no worries” and we all drove off.)

My dashcam was a birthday gift last year from older son, who installed it for me also.

  10. I’ve been thinking of one of the double-camera dashcams that would pick up any action at my driver-side window, too.  I need to dig up the product links I found for that. /:

Is it a triple dashcam? One for the front; the back; and for the side?

No, just double.  Single device intended to be mounted on the passenger side so the main camera could point forward while the side camera has a decent field of view.

So there is no rear facing camera?

@Hypatia Yes, I actually did this in the dream or something very similar. I thought hard about it before I did it (I wasn’t sleeping well; I was at a hotel and knew I needed to drive back to town to get to work on time. Also, my car was really in the shop, since someone backed into it in a parking lot.)  The truck owner in the dream knew what I was angling at, so he said something vaguely like “This is just an old thing I use for hauling (?)”  Thereby releasing me from my responsibility. I feel like I remembered the dream very well and its feelings upon waking, and carried the memory with me until I wrote it out. However . . . I do make an effort at times to reflect on and recall my dreams when I wake up, before the flimsy things flee.
