Pool Life

Growing up in Washington state, I thought 60 degrees was pool weather. I would beg my mom to get out the “royal” plastic blow up pool. It was inches deep for ours was a small “kingdom”. We had another pool that was about 18 inches deep with a thin metal circle around it to give form to the inner plastic. What I never had was a pool like in this picture. I would have wanted more color and a slide. Not one palm tree or a bird was on it. Why didn’t my parents love me?

  1. I bet we had the same or similar 18″ pool. It had a real liner that we replaced several times. That pool lived through 3 of us kids. It was pretty big in circumference. I’m sure it was ordered through Sears and Roebuck. Everything we had back then was from Sears and Roebuck. Before the nice pool we put plastic over an old tractor tire. Better than nothing but only big enough for one.

    What’s a tractor? ( A city kid joke.)

How far did you live from a good size town/city?

It is hard to believe that Sears didn’t make a good transition to the Internet because they were Amazon before Amazon ever got a start.

I can’t  remember since I didn’t set it up how long it would take to set up. It was nice to have enough water to sit in.
Was the water just dumped on the ground to empty it?

  3. We lived 10 minutes from a small town that had a grocery store, 30 minutes from a larger town with more retail stores and an hour from Raleigh. Didn’t get a fast food place til I went to college in the mid ’80’s.

My husband and I often say Sears needed a forward thinking person at the helm. They had everything they needed to be Amazon. I tell my mom all the time (she is anti-internet) that Amazon is just the Sears catalog on the screen.

We just dumped the water out of the pool when we were ready to put it up. We tried to only fill it once a season. Daddy was always worried we would run the well dry if we used too much water at one time.

We would have never had that pool, either, Dime. Back to the tractor tire for you! haha

I’m not proud. When it is approaching 100 with humidity a tractor tire looks pretty good. I do get little plastic dinosaurs, right?

Now you’re talking! For a second there I thought you were a thoughtless nurse.

  7. Whoa!  ΔPΔV = energy, 101.325 J/l-atm.  By inflating the  pool you are dooming the Earth with Klimate Kaos.  We must deflate all bicycle, automotive, truck, trailer, and spare tires;landing gear;  balloons, aerosol cans, soda, seltzer, and champagne bottles; air conditioners and whoopee cushions to Save the Earth! for all its little children!

Not to do so is to die.  HOW DARE YOU!

(We are looking at a whole bunch of artificially-colored phthalate-plasticized poly(vinyl chloride), probably recycled from dead Barbies.  HOW DARE YOU!)

  8. Blondie, I talked to the “pool boy”. There is one child who invites friends over to use the pool. I figure if I come on one of those days I will mix right in. Looks like I won’t need that tractor tire after all!!!
