I want to call your attention to a blog post at a different site. It is well worth the three minutes it will take to read. It is a story about people who expressed concern for a young man who lives very far away from them.
Actually, it is about the media coverage of the concern. Our intrepid media critic was touched by the stories, but then started asking questions. Questions of basic journalism. Check it out:

This is an update of the continuing slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.
Muslim Fulani herdsmen on Monday (July 20) killed 11 Christians in an attack in Kaduna state, Nigeria, in the village of Gora Gan.
This brings the number of murdered Nigerian Christians to 50 since June 12. This particular attack sent seven survivors to the hospital in Zonkwa. Many houses were torched, and there are now over 500 new refugees in a camp in Zonkwa.

Burkina Faso is the country that used to be the French colony of Upper Volta. It is a landlocked country about the size of Colorado. It is in west Africa, where it sits on top of Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo and Benin. To its north and west is Mali; to its east is Niger. It is a tropical country with a rainy season and a dry season. Nearly all of the rain falls in the south. The middle of the country is savannah, and the northern part is Sahara Desert.
Yes, this is another post about Islamicist terrorism in Africa. I am writing to relay some information about recent violence. Muslim jihadi raiders have been on a killing spree for the past few years. In particular, jihadi attacks started ramping up five years ago and have grown dramatically in the past three years. This has gone largely unnoticed by American media.
One of our Ratburghers has a relative who was serving as a Christian missionary in Burkina Faso. He was pulled out last year, on account of increasing violence.

I recently learned a new word. We already were familiar with “madrassa,” which is an Islamic school. An “Almajiri” is also an Islamic school. The word comes from Nigeria and specifically refers to a boarding school. Almajiris are in the news because the Nigerian military recently raided a number of schools.
This has been building up for months. President Buhari spoke against the Almajirai in speeches in June and July. There was a fanfare that quickly faltered in August, about some reforms in government schools.
But for a month now, Nigeria has been rocked by raids on private schools, almajirai, and the exposure led to additional raids, with some school owners, headmasters and teachers arrested, and other owners, headmasters and teachers on the run. It turned out that stolen children were being hidden in several almajirai, kept as slaves in shackles, and, in some cases, subjected to rape in addition to beatings.

No, not those girls from Chibok. At least 150 of those girls have never been heard from.
This was 22 girls who were freed by the Nigerian military, along with 125 boys, from a “school” where they were imprisoned hostages.

Ramadan ended on June 3rd this year. I posted with the overview the following week. There has been no abatement of murder and destruction. In fact, the pace of killing seems to be increasing.
This will not be reported in American mass media. Conservative niche media will only take notice of the most horrifying crimes. The murders of hundreds of Africans is only noted by Christian niche media. Most of the victims are Christians, of course, though plenty of Pagans are murdered by Muslims as well. Every now and then Muslims are killed in reprisals, and that is ten times as likely to get reported in western mass media as other violence.... [Read More]
Ramadan ended last week. Here is the tally.
No casualties in America this year. A pretty big number overall. 911 killed and 1006 wounded. Do you recall seeing any of this in the news? Didn’t think so.

Iranian Shiites held a rally to celebrate Al-Quds Day.
“Many people from across the community and across the Muslim world at large have been swept away by the tide of American patriotism. They are proud of America, its freedom, its democracy, free speech, freedom of religion… At the same time, they look down upon the Islamic countries from the high horse of American exceptionalism. How these countries are backwards, corrupt, unorganized, and you have heard more… For that I would like to call the attention of those individuals – however they might hear this – that the amenities and luxuries that they are enjoying in this country are attained at the expense of the rest of the world.... Today the beginning of Ramadan falls on the fifth of May. This may send shivers across the Intersectionality world, but I am not a part of that world. My Intersectionality Score is zero. But I noticed the calendar, and went looking to see what to expect for Ramadan. Sure enough, I found a recent kid’s program from an American madrassa. The Umma Day program was really interesting, and will just make your day for the first day of Ramadan. Here is a little blurb about the kids’ program at the Muslim American Society Islamic Center of Philadelphia:
young children wearing Palestinian scarves sang: “Glorious steeds call us and lead us [to] the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The blood of martyrs protects us… Take us, oh ships… until we reach our shores and crush the treacherous ones… Flow, oh rivers of martyrs!” A young girl read a poem praising martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Palestine, and she asked: “Will [Jerusalem] be a hotbed for cowards?” Another young girl read: “We will defend [Palestine] with our bodies… We will chop off their heads, and we will liberate the sorrowful and exalted Al-Aqsa Mosque… We will subject them to eternal torture.”...
