It did not seem that way to me, It seemed that the posts did not have any comments yet and that happened, but I will pay much more attention to that detail. .

Is it me or Firefox? This is the third time I had noticed this. Someone posts a new post, coincidentally I am online and I wish to comment on this post. There is no (quote) to copy part of the text someone posted unless I refresh or go back to HOME and then go into the post a second time. I can “Like” it, but not quote it.
Is there a timer engaged to make sure the post is actually finished before someone can “quote” it? Or is there a bug?

    • Are you sure you aren’t trying to quote a post when viewing the extract on the main page, rather than the page showing the full post after you’ve clicked the title? The Quote link only appears when the full post is displayed since there’s no comment composition box on the main page into which to paste the highlighted text. I find myself getting confused by that from time to time. If this is what’s happening, you don’t need to refresh the home page: just clicking the title of the post should display it along with a Quote link.

A post is never displayed until the author hits…[Read more]

The other day we had severe winds and at about 2:00 A.M. we lost electrical power. The power did not return until a little bit after 2:00 P.M. the next day!
If I had purchased new batteries for my hacked UPS, (I used two automobile batteries), I could have had some power. But I didn’t.
So, in anticipation of a winter or summer blackout, I ordered a generator. It’s advertised output would be about 3600-Running-Watts. That’s in the area of 30 Amps at 240 volts. That will be enough for everything but the electric stove. It arrives on April 25.…[Read more]

Well, my hernia operation, the second one, seems to have went well, I should return to work in another week or so. I had signed up for Social Security Retirement benefits and they have started. Not much, after Medicare Part B is paid, it should be a little over a C-note.

John, a direct link in the sidebar would be great for novices, actually I’m probably the only “novice” in here. Still as a reference point a link to the “knowledge base” might help others and those with more experience won’t always have to be on the lookout for posts that ask for help.

Dear Santa, oops, I mean John.
What I would really like to see, (if it already exists, it needs a prominent link), is a “How To” area.
Personally I know “squat” about WordPress. My days of posting are limited to Yahoo groups and Facebook. (for example) How do you post a video? It was explained to me, yet when I posted it that way, no video showed up so I deleted the post. My first attempt was a link to a page on my own website because I could not get it to work. Do others have this problem? I would venture to say they do. I understand the bandwidth constraints and larger storage…[Read more]

    • There are FAQ.
Gerry, would you be willing to write a manual for new users? After you learn how to do the things. I am thinking of a PDF format and conversational.

    • Somehow your Wish List item got flagged as Spam by the software, Gerry. I restored it.

    • The “How To” area, such as it is, is the “Knowledge Base”:

which can be found from the “Categories” section in the sidebar. The Knowledge Base consists of individual articles on various aspects of using the site, both site-specific features and general WordPress and BuddyPress topics.

One big problem with WordPress (and BuddyPress) is that the developers seem to have overlooked ever writing a user manual for either one. There is massive internal documentation for developers, but the users, who outnumber developers…[Read more]

    • >> How do you post a video?

Most people post videos by uploading to a service such as YouTube or Vimeo, then simply inserting the raw URL in a post or comment as described in the Knowledge Base article on embedding:

WordPress only allows direct embedding from a built-in white list of trusted sites. It doesn’t allow embedding from an arbitrary site because due to the bonehead way they implement it, a malicious site would be able to do arbitrary damage by supplying malicious…[Read more]
